Continued work on the LIRR tugboat for the layout.

3D printed a curved LIRR herald placard for the smokestack. Had to order white resin so I could scrape the red paint away. The red will get much darker when I weather the stack.



Also formed a spark arrestor for the stack using the fine screen I sold to some folks for fencing.





Made a whistle got the top of the pipe in front of the stack, and printed two distinct engine room air intakes. The ones from the kit were somewhat disappointing looking.



Smokestack installed along with the rear flag mast, it is brass tube with the rear navigation led at the top. The flag mast needs added detail, but not before paint. The front whistle wire has the white forward navigation led lamp and wire exiting out of the bottom of the deck. Also added the rail around the main cabin. The model is almost ready for paint which will be a PRR Tuscan variant, based on the linked photo above. The green starboard and red port navigation LEDs will be added after paint to the top of the pilot house.

After seeing the factory-tinted domes on the new Railsmith N Budd domes, I wanted my older ones to match.  Here are the results, using some alcohol-based inks from the local craft shop.  Details can be found here:

I've been staring at this orphaned corner of my layout for many years -



At first I thought I'd just plant some more corn up there, but then quickly decided that I'd already had more than my fill of corn modeling. So, after a bit of google searching, I came up with this no-name grain elevator operation that looked like it might be a better and more interesting option -



And so it was! 









Of course, with it pushed up practically right against the backdrop, I did wind up wasting a lot of time modeling details that ain't no one else is ever going to see







So, that's it folks. After 16 years working on this layout, I literally have no more buildings left to build! 



Of course that still leaves several dozen more supertrees in need of building, so I've got that going for me, which is nice

Got a little carried away. After trying out the Ballast sled on this older scrap module, I tried my hand at summer scenery.

I will wear on my sleeve that this is heavily inspired by @Dave V 's turnaround module.

After a couple years of work, I have finally wrapped up my project to 3D print a unit train's worth of NSC 2400 aggregate hoppers for hauling limestone to Georgia Power Plant Wansley on my NS Cedartown District HO Scale layout. Here's the entire train passing through Carrollton. More details about the production process in the video description.

Tough video to follow ..

On the MMID there is a pair of high voltage power lines that cross - I found a good candidate on Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:998240 which I scaled down to approximately N scale 120' tall .. -- the original files were intended to be glued together, but I merged them into 3 assemblies -- they still take over 4 hours to print each one ..

Shown here is the first set of Alpha and Beta prints - I still need to work on supports some more and make some of the cross members a little thicker to print easier .. I will post this as a remix on Thingiverse when I am happy with the product

Thanks to John here on Railwire for sending me this tower and equipment shed (along with some other printed coolness). Test fitting and using hearing aid batteries, hearing aid cups, and the curved ends of tacks that will be formed into the dishes.

ooh. That was always a cool file. I think I've made 2 of them so far but never found a good spot for them.

This first week of summer was an action-packed model railway week for myself and a few friends.  On Monday evening Michael B. (Dayliner), John W. and I visited Gary Hinshaw for an opportunity to try out some train re-equipped with the new N Possible couplers.  After a superb dinner at Olympia Pizza on Broadway, we got down to business.  Gary showed us the coupler parts and a re-equipped MT gauge, and we then ran some trains:




I was able to set out and pick up a few cars to try out coupling and uncoupling:

I have decided to start work on scenery this summer and began with shaping a scenic ridge from styrofoam to separate Sundance and Bond sidings:




The goal is to provide some scenic separation but still be able to monitor trains on the FSJ Subdivision behind:




On Wednesday evening I marked the second anniversary of operations on my layout since the move with Op Session 37.  One of the goals was to clear out all of the cars from Septimus siding and the off-layout staging above in preparation for scenery work here:




The guests included Michael B. (Dayliner), Geoff F. and Gary Hinshaw:




With the summer grain rush approaching, a yard engine has been assigned to Dawson Creek:




The eastbound Dawson Creek Switcher comprised 18 cars and caboose, which is a big train for my little layout!




Removal of all cars from Septimus and points north required two Septimus Turns.  This is the second train emerging from behind the temporary scenic ridge and rounding the curve into Chetwynd:




On Friday evening I hosted our monthly 7DPNR Model Night, at which I assembled two pairs of N Possible couplers gifted to me by Gary:

Fun weekend so far. Spent some time over in St Michael's MD. I'm working on an article that's set there and it was cool seeing the spot in person. It's also a really great little getaway. Highly recommend.

Before I left I worked on my two D&H geeps. Amusingly the work I did on them was identical to what I'd do to Conrail units: adding Sinclair antennas and painting the walkways black. I even used the same paint color for touch-up. Lol.

I used some Tamiya panel liner on the grills and doors. They still need further weathering but they're really looking at home now. Thanks again to @EL3632 for hooking me up with these beauties.

The Chessie unit is there because the D&H was chronically short on power and often stole B&O units.
