Just like to add:
The original 10 and 23 ml bottles that are typically available in most hobby shops are the alcohol based synthetic lacquers. Can be thinned with 90% alcohol or Tamiya's thinner (which I believe has a built in retarder). The 23ml bottles seem to be slightly harder to get these days compared to the 10ml.
The little square bottles are their enamel line and have been around for years, but only recently available in the states probably in the last 20 years or so I think.
The other 10ml bottles are their new full lacquer based line (the LP bottles). These are full organic solvent paints and require the necessary safety precautions (like ventilation and respirator). They have thinners as well...but I prefer to use Mr. Hobby Leveling thinner because it has a built in retarder. I've not been able to get these paints thinned properly and they come out a little on the thick side. In my opinion...there are better lacquer paints out there like Mr Hobby, GAIA Notes, Nazca, and KAIZO. Much better color ranges as well.
The spray bombs are full lacquer as well and go on quite well for spray cans, but they are expensive and have very small amounts of paint. A lot of car modelers decant these paints and use in an airbrush.
Finally...you have the spray bombs for the Poly-carbonate plastic bodies for RC cars that are designed for that very smooth plastic.
My biggest gripe with Tamiya is the color range. It sucks...the colors are limited, inaccurate...and WAY too dark...at least in the synth acrylic line. The newer LPs might be better...but again...the range is limited. The colors in the spray can range are pretty good especially in the aircraft range.
Yes...the colors don't match between lines. Tamiya being Tamiya.
