Two questions. 1) With the H3 kit, is there room anywhere for a decoder? Guessing no room for a speaker, but maybe a LokPilot 5 Micro? And 2) the I1sa kit just gets added to a standard Minitrix 2-10-0?

I need to go find some threads on re-motoring a Minitrix I1sa.

Last time I talked with John about it he said that there IS actually room in there if you replace the MDC/Athearn motor with a Bachmann K4 one.

You may want to hold off as another new kit will be coming soon for super detailing PRR freight engine tenders that will be a Keystone Details kit including various cistern covers, marker lights, backup lights, and large (3 man) and small (1 man) PRR doghouses, and if I can get them to print, cistern vent grilles.


 The tender up grade kit is a great idea and look I forward to getting some, but I can't help from wondering, is a long distance tender in the works??

@Dave V , H3: Yes but only with the motor change.  The tender shell will not fit on the old motor.  A customer was able to jam a decoder in there, not sure if they did sound.  I1: Yes the instructions show some mods to the Trix shell to align the cylinders and shorten the smokebox a little to clear the air tanks and a single trim to the front of the chassis, but no linkage mods are required.

@Iain I think that would be near impossible as I think the OEM truck are so low profile that it would create issues with the driveshaft angle. The electrical pickup on these locos is pretty darn good already, IMHO.

@towl1996 , That is affirmative ghost rider.  Both the riveted and welded tenders will be offered by the end of the year, IF I can render the shells cleanly.    I kinda wish BLI would offer the M1 riveted tender separately, sans decoder.

Weren't you the person who shoved a decoder into the H3 tender kit?  I know I have seen pics of it from someone...

Found it- Yes it was you @towl1996 ! @Dave V this is a DZ126t so the micro is likely smaller.  Not much room in the cab for a speaker either after the belpaire overlay is installed.  Note that the rear tender frame posts have been hogged out to add room for the decoder.

As for decals, I'm imagining getting the elaborate striping on the H3 must be a challenge.

@Ed Kapuscinski  Agreed, For that matter the flywheel could be removed altogether or pushed on farther. That's a smooth running motor in there.

@Dave V You are welcome.  I have never tried to apply those stripes, but dang- it might be worth it.

One of the decal manufacturers has you covered. Either K4 (go figure) or circus city.

That said, depending on the era, the striping is optional. They eventually wore just a plain "P.R.R" and then the spelled out "PENNSYLVANIA".

Don't forget that 1187, as we see it today, was dressed up a bit for her ceremonial duties before she came to the museum. They haven't done anything to alter her appearance from when the Pennsy cleaned her up for the World's Fair.

But that is a small Digitrax DZ126T decoder, not a sound decoder. Sound decoders are usually larger.

I agree, the BLI tender is really nice. I love the look of the long distance tenders behind the appropriate PRR steamers. Excited to see you trying to print these, I know you'll offer a great kit, just like you did with this tender,

Fusion Scale Graphics can print metallic gold (and silver) decals.  They are/have been my go-to. I've gotten decals from both K4 and CMR/Netslof as well.  I have not done any metallic decals myself, however.
