Just finished with a sound and custom lighting install in a Kato N scale SC-44 Charger.... />Only one red marker working until I obtain a replacement light pipe.Sound decoder is an ESU 58741 board with sound file S0837. All board-mounted LED’s and all available auxiliary lighting outputs on the decoder were utilized to illuminate front headlight, rear headlight, flashing ditchlights, flashing strobes, destination sign, numberboards and front red markers. This loco has a pretty ingenious series of light pipes allowing many of the stock lighting features to be illuminated by 2 board-mounted LED’s at the front of the stock light board. I had to add an SMD/LED to the bottom of the ESU board in the Aux 2 position (the ESU board is technically mounted backwards) to take advantage of some of these pipes along with the existing LED on the top of the board. I felt that he front headlight wasn’t bright enough with just the light pipe so I installed an SMD/LED mounted right behind the headlight housing and the power was taken from the Aux 1 output. Tiny SMD/LED’s were attached to the (interior) ends of the ditchlight light pipes so they would also be brighter and flash independently. The engine room lighting is achieved by using the Kato 11-211 lighting kit, which takes power straight off the frame and track power as there were no more lighting outputs available on the decoder. The interior detail behind the engine room screens was painted so it would be more visible. During the lighting hinstallation process, I managed to break off one end of the front red light pipe and therefore only one red marker is working until I can obtain a replacement light pipe.
That scene just keeps getting better and better @chuck geiger.I spent the week printing more well cars and I'm back to work on trees now that the weather allows. Another 1000 conifers...I also set up a bit of a On30 layout under the main layout. My package from China brought links and pins for the couplers.
$dayjob thing this week:
Bruce @arbomambo, what that the semi-circular cut-outs for?
