What about a black decal stripe on the F unit?

That's actually what I used. It wasn't actually trim film. It was a set of stripes.

Got a little distracted... This old IM composite gon followed me home from an estate sale a while back. I remember fondly assembling my HO version of one these cars years ago when they first came on the market. This car was kit assembled by the previous owner, but it needed a little help. I kept the original trucks but replaced the wheels with ESM ones, cutting off the hideous truck mount contraption thing. I had to add weight, and used the exact same sheet lead under the floor I used on the HO car 25 odd years ago. I'm pretty happy with the end result, although it really needs wire grabs and new stirrups. Maybe I'll try and find one still in kit form and try from scratch, but given the starting point I'm happy. The couplers are radically improved at least!

Those IM kits are fun little projects once you do a dozen of them and know what kinks you need to work around. But best part is vendors are always desperate to dump them in bulk for pennies.

Designed and printed a pair of JSH70 heavy duty flats.

I am not a fan of Micro-Trains' implementation of their M1150 kit; it used a resin turret which was more work than I wanted to do for a result that I didn't like. Ran across a video on the tube of you featuring a train with six of them, all in the unloaded state. So dove into the pictures, borrowed measurements from the M1 turret, and generated a replacement. The first pair, next to the MTL original:

I forgot to print the smoke grenade launchers (separate part), I'm still on the fence about MTL's rear deck details. They may get a rework as well.

So what is that top JSH70 flatcar load?

I'm surprised you didn't put a locomotive on it, that's the kind of load that usually goes on those.

Generic wind turbine nacelles as seen here.

Thought about it... too lazy to remove trucks and add blocking to get a photo. Ideally would like to find one I can print for a reasonable sum but thus far am not having much luck.

Scenery to Track Elevator – Part 8 & How to Apply Spackling to Foam Board...

How to apply Spackling to foam board and continuing with the scenery on the upper level going to the track elevator.

On this page I’ll go into my latest method of applying Spackling and painting it. By trying different tools and methods I’m probably doing this work about twice as fast as when I started with the foam scenery. I’ll probably be sticking pretty much with what I’m doing for the rest of the scenery build and there is still a lot to do.

I’m also really glad that I’m doing this now after laying the cork roadbed and before laying track and not having to work over it.

The tools shown above make adding the Spackling to the foam board a lot faster than some I was using, pretty much not using a putty knife any longer…. spatula works better.

The spackling out of the container is pretty stiff for working into the cracks of the foam board. Take your sponge, I always have water and a sponge in another container, and squeeze a little out into the spackling and stir it until it is fairly fluid but still sticks to the spoon if you turn it over.

Smear and spread the Spackling into the cracks and crevices and places you might of gone too far with the hot knife. When you have about what is shown on above move to ….

…. the brush that is pretty flexible. I keep it in the water…. Take it out…. wring the water out with your hand and then work the Spackling around to fill and smooth it. Try and get a light layer on all the foam to help seal it.

Brush in different directions to do this with a dryer brush. When it is where you want it leave just a bit more water on the brush and finish brushing more top to bottom, like water would flow down the rock face. You should be able to get most of the brush marks out and the surface will look pretty wet and almost fluid. Stop and let it dry like what is happening on the face to the right above. You can always come back and touch up if needed.

Spackling and painting is just the first step. There hopefully will be a lot of ground cover added after I get the tracks in place and working here and other areas, lots of other areas..

Several weeks ago I started scratchbuilding the DL&W Painted Post depot.

Beautiful! The protype is probably a modified "Pagoda Style" depot, a very stylish railroad variant of the "Carpenter Gothic" with a characteristic swing in the roof. See: https://scotlawrence.github.io/pagoda/index.html (link edited) . Your prototype had the roof swing probably aligned to a sharp angle in later years.

I made a laser cut model of this years ago, this is a shorter model without freight section.

Scenery to Track Elevator – Part 7

Continuing with the scenery on the upper level going to the track elevator……...

I have the print files up on thingiverse for the double track plate girder bridge above and some other abutments where you can vary the angles. More info and print file links ( HERE ) . Also a different style 64 foot bridge ( HERE ) .

I designed these abutments to fit the location. If you go to the link further above you can find the print file links to adjustable angle abutments.

The image above and the following ones show rock work that was added to hopefully break up the flat mesa top area where the tracks run.

.

A dirt service road was added that will come in along the rock face to the left and follow the tracks down to the plate girder bridge. It will provide a way for work crews to get to this area if needed.

Time for Spackling and paint.

To be continued…....

A link to this whole build ( HERE ) .

Shouldn't all this be only in Layout Engineering Reports?

Well, that's too bad for them. Should we cater to the few members who limit themselves to just viewing a single thread or single forum section?  Really?  Why do we even have different sections then?
I agree that Sumner's post in question would be a better fit in the layout engineering report section. Then a post in WU thread can also be posted to the engineerign report thereat.  It is not that difficult to do and members here do just that.  Look at for example Lemosteam's posts.

Speaking of peeves, why do people fully quote lengthy posts with multiple photos in them?  I already seen and enjoyed seeing them in the original long post. Why make me scroll through the same photos again, in a reply with full quote. Is it too difficult to trim most (or all) photos from the quoted text?  :RUEffinKiddingMe:
