My personal favorite in the "CR" (Crash Repainting and Cursory Repairs) era was also a GP40.  CR 3031
http://www.boomerkeogh.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=819566#google_vignette

The unique part about it was that you could actually read "New York Central"   "Penn Central"  and the patched "CR" all on the same unit.  It was readable.

Second favorite was a Lehigh Valley GP10 (?) Low-nose, ox-yoke, red, that had the Lehigh Valley herald just sprayed out with random red paint, no attempt at masking anything, with a CR patch.

Third runner up was our own local power for a couple years, the Johsonburg, Kane, Warren and Irvine ex-WM ex-CSX GP9 6414, that was painted Chessie, but when the locals got it, all they did was patch out "Chessie" leaving "System" on the long hood.  'The System Engine'.

Only had one can of yellow paint, sorry....but that's just cheap, not the worst of it.
That's the one that ended up on Knox & Kane, got burned in the enginehouse fire , became a hulkup on the Georges Creek, numbered back to 39, , and is now....?
This is my throwdown for the worst looking unit of all time on its own wheels:  https://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1677869

Drops weathering mike on that one.

One of those threesome GP40s is on my todo list. I think I've already checked my LV beater box though with my GP38 with the blue horn.

I'm so glad I moved back into "Early Conrail".

You guys haven’t seen anything rusty until you look up the Hampton and Branchville here in SC. They did not care at all about the paint or outward condition, as long as the unit would fire up and move. I’ll look up some rail pictures and rr picture archives links later when I have a chance

Yeah, but I get extra points for covering the cab windows with plywood on GCR 39.

It got as far as getting the body primed, and now it is the problem (opportunity!) of the Western Maryland Scenic.

Tough to beat those CP units, especially the ex B&M.
But MKT GP38ac is still on my bucket list to do.

OMG, those look worse than the Geeps parked on the old North Coast in Eureka California.
