PVC backdrops

I trying to figure out how I want to do the backdrop for the new layout.  I plan to paint it to look like a hazy, featureless sky.

For my past two layouts I used a faux-Masonite (some knock-off brand) backdrop.  It looked OK, but was hard to work with and keeping the seams from cracking is a challenge and I'm looking for a different (hopefully better) solution.

Several folks have suggested vinyl flashing. @Ed Kapuscinski suggested this one:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Union-Corrugating-14-in-x-30-ft-Vinyl-Roll-Flashing/3299110.
It's 14" x 30'.  That would mean one seam (I'd need about 36' to have no seams).  Not ideal, but better then Masonite (5 seams) and way easier to apply.

So a few questions:
1. how would one treat the seam so it isn't visible.
2. how would one paint this?  Does it need a special primer, or just interior latex?

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

pvc and vinyl are tough to paint, I would recommend light sanding and then. use Fusion spray for a base coat.. it will bond.
as far as the seam.. the only thing that comes to mind is PVC glue.  laminate a second section to bridge the joint behind the display surface.

Try some Dupli-Color “Adhesion Promoter,” a clear automotive primer for plastic and vinyl.  I sprayed some on a cheap plastic pickup truck before painting it with a rattle can of basic white.  Unfortunately, the clear coat was a bad batch, so I attempted to strip it with 91% IPA.  The clear coat came right off, but the white paint would not!  That Adhesion Promoter works!

Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer works well on PVC. It also doesn't hurt to lightly scuff the surface before applying.
