Ritchie, it's such a shame whoever did such an amazing job coloring that highway, building that bridge, and weathering that equipment left such an obvious shadow where the modeled highway meets the photo backdrop.

More express cars for the Pioneer Limited - #1074

A couple of the Pioneer Limited consists that I've been using to build the train have a "Lake" series 10-6 sleeper bringing up the markers.......so......

I purchased an extra "Lake" series Sleeper off Ebay from the new Hiawatha set and added a Rapido end gate to the vestibule end (according to the books, the vestibule end of these cars was to be run towards the rear) as well as adding a set of Detail Associate marker lamps (drilled holes in the marker lamp brackets that were molded into the car).

Since I took this photo yesterday, I've swapped out the rear truck with one without a truck mounted coupler and body mounted a MT true scale coupler with the air hose.  Since I'll never couple anything to the rear of this car (since it has the marker lamps on it), I figured the true scale coupler would look better.

I've been helping maintain my friend's HO scale Pennsy layout after he passed away in late 2023. 
A Sunset models 2-8-0 started shorting during a recent operating session.  I narrowed the short down to the lead driver set:

It turns out that only the left side tire of the driver is isolated from the chassis via a very thin band of paper, between the tire and the driver center.
The tire had slid inwards slightly and was probably touching the counterweight, which is electrically on the right hand rail.  I re-gauged the driver tire
so there is a tiny gap between it and the counterweight.  Some CA type glue applied from the back side will hopefully keep the tire from slipping again:

Some other minor repairs, a touch-up job on the paint, new centering spring device for the front coupler, and a new headlight, and it is back in business.

Here's an updated photo of the "Lake" series sleeper with the body mounted MT True-Scale coupler installed.  Looks much better than the oversized truck mounted Kato coupler.

JFRTM this morning.  I wanted to gather up all of the wood chip cars and pulpwood flats, which required the Aberdeen & Rockfish to run a train from Fayetteville, North Carolina, and the Southern Ry. to run from Star.  After being returned to their home rails, these cars were picked up by the Seaboard Coast Line in Aberdeen.  Shown here, the SCL local is coming into Southern Pines, to work the new wood chip facility.



This is the first time that I’ve MUed these two motors, but a U18B and a GP16 just scream local SCL power.  It’s what both of these locomotives were designed to do.  It’s been a long time waiting for this shot; I recently gutted the U18B, adding DCC, sound, and LEDs (including a Gyra Light and emergency light at each end), and the GP16 was vaporware for approximately eight years.
