N Scale Atlas / Micro Ace 2-6-0 parts?

I probably know the answer already but has anybody got a line on a replacement motor either OEM or something that will fit in a MicroAce 2-6-0? I have come across one that the brushes are just about gone and the com is all gummed up and refuses to clean up. I have a message in to Atlas but I doubt they have anything that old lying around. Haven't seen Micro Ace equipment in so long, never did find one of the 0-6-6-0 loco's.

Tony, is it the same motor that's in the Atlas / Micro Ace 4-4-0? A picture of the motor would be good.

It is not the same as the 4-4-0. The motor is a very short 5 pole, fits in the cab, roughly 10x10x10 cube with a long shaft. There is a picture on Spookshow's site.

I think the Nigel Lawton 10x12 motor will fit.

Think I may have found a solution. This is a motor out of an RC servo. 10 mm (8 mm flats) x 14 mm w/ 1mm shaft. Just wish the shaft was longer. Going to need to be creative to mount the worm.

Bit of tube and some Loctite 603? If both shafts are 1mm, cut the worm and a bit of the shaft off the old motor, then affix it carefully to the new one. You'll need some 1mm ID tube, but that's available.

Here is tonight's progress. Stole the front bearing out of the old motor to make a support bearing for the new one. Probably going to need to add a resistor or step down to slow it down a bit. The motor was designed for 6v.

It's whole again. Had to add a diode bank to drop the voltage but it runs quite nicely now. Removed about half the tender weight to make room for the diodes and wiring. 4 in series forward biased parallel with 4 in series reverse biased and it drops the voltage about 3v. Motor is now wired to the tender and should make it fairly easy to take out the diodes and replace them with a decoder. I may have to do that to my other one. Sorry no step by step, started working on it tonight and the next thing I knew it was midnight and it was done.

I wouldn't remove the diodes from a 6V motor when using a decoder.  Decoder's PWM motor drive voltage is still 12V pulses.

The problem is, to put a decoder in it, the diodes have to go because there is no room. With the 3v drop, it runs just about the same speed as my original one so I think this motor would be OK, just limiting top speed on the decoder. It's out of an RC servo that I use in my mini's that can handle 8.4v and a lot more stress than this loco will ever put it through. It's pretty torquey, might have to try it in some other applications.

As I mentioned the problem is that the motor will see full 12V pulses across its terminals. It will likely suffer reduced lifespan, but hopefully will outlive the life of the model.
