Is there a Long Shank option for the Micro Trains 2004 Kato coupler?

Hello,

I love how the Micro Trains 2004 coupler slips right into the pocket of most of my Kato N Scale locos.  However, for the longer locos like the Dash 9 and the SD70s, I need a longer shank to make it around the tight turns.  I don't seem to be able to find a version of the 2004 with a longer shank.  I have tried taking the longer shank of another micro trains coupler (can't remember the number) and putting it in the coupler box of the 2004, but the height is then off by quite a bit since the knuckle is at a different height on the shank.  Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply.  I'm not quite sure how that huge extension would work on a locomotive, or should I just use the coupler parts to put in the 2004 coupler box?  The shanks are longer and at the right height?

I did some further study of photos on the interwebs......looks like I can use the parts from 1019 for the 2004 box.  I have ordered some to play with.  Thanks for the tip!

1019 shanks in a 2004 box will work.  You might be able to cut the extension off the 1019 and use as is, or that might require a tiny bit of surgery to the loco pilot because I think the 1019 box is a smidge thicker.

Yes, sorry … I should have been more explicit. You utilize the 1019 coupler/knuckle in a 2004 (or 1016) box. I usually utilize the 1016.

Oh, those are interesting!  I got some 1019s, but if I run out of those, I may look into the 2001s.
