Since it’s in the eastern panhandle explains why I didn’t know about it. Still surprised that I didn’t hear about it at the Huntington train show.  Someone there had to know about it.

Finally coming to an end on HandCab-DC DC throttle project.  Got the sound files 95% where I want them and all the electronics and Arduino code seems to be working fine.

I got the N scale boxcar finished with Bluetooth sound.  See the beginning and middle to end of the following video if you are only interested in the Bluetooth boxcar.....

... that can be placed behind a DC loco.  I think I'll also make this a standalone option for those that want a sound option to use behind a non-sound DCC loco.  Probably only if there is any interest in that (let me know).  It would be a box with only the sound button controls on it, not a throttle.  One could also use it with DC if they wanted to use their current DC throttle for loco control.

Hopefully done by the end of this week but will probably be 3 weeks or so before I have build documentation, sound files up and print files up due to other obligations.

Taking a break from the CN GP38 builds while I wait for detail parts to arrive. This is a Quality Craft kit (circa 1975) of a Thrall All Door Boxcar, which will be painted up for Bennett Lumber(Idaho) , seeing as they are rarer than hens teeth on ebay for finding the Red Caboose versions. Bennett was served by the Milwaukee Road before the Western Extension abandonment. A day that lives on in infamy in the hearts of many.

Nice to see a vintage craftsman kit being built.  I have one of those, still unassembled.  Back when the plastic model came out I took the easy way and bought it.

I have my fair share of the Red Caboose models! I also have another Q-craft All door box and a couple of RBOX kits lurking around somewhere,they are next on the agenda.

I should have asked  this in my earlier post.  While I have not looked at my kit for quite a few years, I seem to recall that the metal castings had the door locking hardware as part of the castings. In your model it seems that this hardware is represented by dark color wire/rod.  Was your kit like that you you modified it?

I built one of these as a teenager (when the kit was new).  The door hardware was definitely fabricated from wire (although mine wasn't as nicely done).

Looks good. I can't say I've heard of that brand before. I have seen the old Ambroid kits along with Roller Bearing Models ones pop up sometimes though. Someday I want to get one just to say I tried it.

Thanks everyone. Pete, the kit came with door castings and the door locking hardware was made with the wire supplied in the kit.

I purchased an extra abba ER set with the thought of bashing them. but in closer looking it seems to be a difficult decision as where to cut off from a donor for the extra length.

I kind of figured they were. I never throw anything out either. I come from a long line of packrats and always figure the day after I throw something out, I'll finally end up needing it.
