I love trains, particularly steam. I've completed a couple models in HO, S and O scale. I like modeling, but don't do it often. I sidetracked into On30 for a long time, as we had a great group of modelers nearby in Rhode Island. I was from north central CT. Now I'm in the Mojave desert in CA... So I also have a bunch of On30 stuff I should sell.
One of my problems is that I frequently get bored, run out of steam before completing things, so if I do this, it's got to be pretty simple. I also never seem to run out of 12" to the foot models, which I also like making... I'm better at completing those!
I have a 20" by 12.5' area in our office where I could put a small layout. There's actually benchwork there now, but that's as far as I got on the last attempt and I would make some changes there.
I'm thinking that I would do HOn30 in a twice around loop that gains elevation for continuous running (I have grandkids who also might like to watch the trains. Or not... We'll see) then add a siding here and there on the straight-a-ways. I have some n-Scale cars and a loco that might get run once in a while. For the HOn30, I would be forcing the trains to run around 10-11" radius curves, 4 of them for 270 degrees each. I would do n-Scale entirely, but I'm seventy-something, the details are really small and two of the features I like best about model steam would be realistic couplers and outside steam engine valve gear, neither of which is really great in n-Scale.
So ideas are welcome and I can try to post some things here if I can get this going. Happy New Year!
