This just showed up in my You Tube feed:

Filmed in HD on a beautiful spring afternoon on the hill.

Oh My Goodness. Thank you, Gary.

I stopped the vid at the Sandcut helper pocket... or where it used to be, like so much of the railroad... but will take in the rest later tonight. Mixed emotions coming out of Bakersfield. I recognized a little, but not a lot. Kern Junction appears to be the faintest ghost of what it was back in my day. Edison was really depressing with all those packing houses shuttered and tracks out of service.

Unless I'm mistaken the video starts a hundred yards or so after Kern Junction, between the legs of the SJVRR junction wye.

Ah! Thanks. That explains it. Forgot about the SJV. So much has changed since my time there.

This actually is the train camera from Gary's layout.   (yes the ballast is finally finished.)

I wish.  ;)

I was bummed that Kern Jct was missed; and yes, Edison is a shell of its former self (but it will live on on TBC).   Most of that business has moved to newer plants on the nearby SJVR.   The video is definitely of niche interest, but there are some valuable angles for us modellers.

Disappointed it wasn't through Tehachapi (city) or even Monolith. There is some RR interest through Cable and Summit. At two hours I knew we weren't going to make it to Mojave.

Couple of things piqued my curiosity. First was all the yellow plastic boxes littering the ROW around Caliente. I can hazard a guess they were full of Pandrol clips since there were piles of discarded ties in several locations, one around the live oak west of Caliente proper I used to camp under. The other thing was the 10-15 second gap at 1:23:40, between Cliff and Rowen. They were censoring something, possibly having to do with the wrecked car in the ditch off to the left.

I was amused by the "diapers" under the flange lubricators. Hadn't seen that before. Somebody finally figured out that letting the grease seep down into the soil was probably not a good thing.

Thanks again for the link, Gary. Nice Christmas present. Elicited many memories, and a fair bit of melancholy in seeing what was no more.

...

I was most interested in the parts that are less accessible since that means I haven't seen them in person or in as many photographs.  So it was nice to get Ilmon and Cliff and disappointing not to get anything between Marcel and Tehachapi.
