The lack of a bell on the high short hood is arguably irrelevant if they offered a Phase Ia shell, assuming they offer Flexicoil truck sideframes (or the trucks still accept Kato sideframes like the SD35 does)

Who wants to model the one-off oddball of the fleet?  #1728 was in a wreck on Halloween 1974 while on the Reading, and was rebuilt into a low nose with b-directional control stand (as opposed to dual controls).

The new Atlas SD45 appears to be a ground up design - it would be nice if the sideframes were interchangeable with the earlier Kato SD45 and Atlas SD35 sideframes (I did this with my Kato SD45s to approximate the "triple' hi mount brake cylinders as found on N&W 1765-1814). Looking forward to seeing one soon - if the swap is simple, I might spring for #1757 as I have ample hi-nose bells in my parts bin.

I might be able to approximate the trucks on 1757 using an exacto knife. 

Looking at the photos on Mark's site (Spookshow), it looks like the truck sideframes are incompatible with the ealier ones: http://www.spookshow.net/loco/atlassd45.html

But, there is a silver lining to being off from work today - I looked at the Atlas (crude) parts diagram for the new SD45 and it looks like the brake cylinders are a separate casting. 



This would make modeling the earlier NW SD45s easier - I might just get me a #1757.

I have the bell in my parts bin (but not the whistle!)

Correct on both counts. I ordered enough of the cylinder assemblies as separate parts for the "missing" middle cylinder. The several on my bench are awaiting additional details before painting into UP.

You mentioned horns. I have the same issue - S-5T-R. The Atlas/ex-BLMA castings have been on backorder forever, with no resolution in sight.

Appreciate the confirmation Mike! I ordered NW #1757 - so I should be able to correct some of the issues from my parts bin. All-weather cab windows remain a challenge in N scale.

I use that same horn as a stand-ins for RS-5T-RF - hope they re-run those soon.
