Geeze, that link goes to a "catalog" with a really annoying human interface!  And all 4 of the pictures of the new 4-6-0 have a "NEW" graphic superimposed over the pilot/cow catcher.

@track1 what are the odds of making the tenders available for purchase?

0.000001, unless they somehow show up in spare parts sections.  I think Bachmann really go burned last time they tried to sell tenders separately.

Today I received an E-Mail with some Bachmann Model Updates.

Bachmann’s New N Scale 19th Century 4-6-0 is arriving in late 2026.

These ornate pioneer-era locomotives replicate some of the first to be built with the 4-6-0 wheel arrangement, featuring iconic paint schemes such as Baltimore & Ohio®, Union Pacific®, Central Pacific, and the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Bachmann is delighted to bring these beautiful early steam locomotives to N Scale with SoundTraxx® Tsunami2™ DCC Sound on Board®.

The first steam locomotive to operate in North America with the 4-6-0 wheel arrangement entered service with the Philadelphia and Reading in 1847. More railroads would come to adopt the wheel arrangement in the following decades, finding greater tractive effort in the 4-6-0 than in the 4-4-0 predecessor. The Bachmann 19th Century 4-6-0 replicates these ornate early examples, coming equipped with Soundtraxx® Tsunami2™ DCC Sound on board.

Features include:

SoundTraxx® Tsunami2™ DCC equipped for sound, speed, direction, and lighting control.

LED headlight with era-appropriate warm glow.

Wood or coal tender per prototype.

Magnetically operated E-Z Mate® Mark II couplers.

Dual-mode NMRA compliant decoder for use on digital (DCC) or analog (DC) systems.

Die-cast chassis.

Metal side rods.

Quite an impressive decoration!
But the plasticky translucent stanchions for the handrail could have better and more opaque color, and the crosshead guides could also be molded from a warmer tone and more opaque plastic. That shouldn't be that difficult to do.

Kato is also really bad about the bluish-silver plastic color which does not match the rest of the (actual metal) value gear and side rods. Fleischmann has this figured out. They use similar plastic parts but the coloring and opacity are much closer match to the color of other metal parts.

I am wondering if the cheddar cheese lettering is correct for the UP . All my photos are in B&W , and I thought the lettering was white . Hmmm I wish Bachmann would proof the color to us some how .

Not saying the cheese is right, but white is not. For the era of this loco, gold or aluminum leaf would be correct.

For many railroads, including the UP, lettering that appeared white was weathered aluminum leaf.

Does anyone else think the drivers are too small, and the tender far too tall?

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I'm not seeing any wires between loco and tender.  So, I am wondering if the loco in the photo is actually a functioning model.

The high tender looks like it was designed that way to make room for a decoder and speaker, so I am expecting some wires from there to the loco for at least motor control.  Headlight might not be decoder controlled.

Frankly, I am more interested in the tender to replace the tender on the original Bachmann 4-6-0.  So, I am hoping for plug compatibility - but not really expecting it.

It's difficult to see, but the PRR model has wires to the tender.

The wires seem to come and go depending on the picture.  Some of he older pics from December have wires.  Some don't.

As I've never seen a photo of a steam locomotive having been painted in this manner, wondering if the red topped running boards are appropriate for the Union Pacific 4-6-0?
