You need to buy the magazine!

Lol. Yeah, I figured that out right after I posted. Will do.

In any case, great looking loco and no doubt some great info in your article, and that issue looks like it has couple other articles that address some of my current modeling projects, so it will be well worth the price.

After doing some research over the past week, I think I've come up with a "correct" consist for the Golden State that I can model using cars that I have, cars that I have ordered from Lowell Smith, and cars I can repaint:

September 1950 - Rock Island / Southern Pacific "Golden State"

-RI (A-B) or SP (A-B-B) set of E7's - Rock Island Life Like shells on Kato mechanisms (Digitrax DCC)
-RI Corrugated Mail/Baggage #803 - Union Station Products Sides - K4 Decals
-RI Baggage/Dormitory #302 - Atlas car with Foobie number - K4 Decals
-SP Leg Rest Chair Car Golden Ore - Railsmith
-SP Leg Rest Chair Car Golden Sand - Railsmith
-RI 32 Seat Coffee Shop/16 Seat Lounge Golden Bowl - Union Station Products Sides - K4 Decals
-RI Leg Rest Coach Golden Cymbal - Atlas car - K4 Decals
-RI 6-6-4 Sleeper Golden Banner - Intermountain
-RI 6-6-4 Sleeper Golden Plaza - Intermountain
-RI 36 Seat Diner Golden Repast - Union Station Products Sides - K4 Decals
-SP Club Lounge Golden Outlook - Union Station Products Sides - K4 Decals
-SP 12 Double Bedroom Sleeper Golden Poppy - Union Station Products Sides - K4 Decals
-RI 4-4-2 Sleeper Golden Fleece - Intermountain
-RI 4-4-2 Sleeper Golden Hour - Intermountain
-SP - 10-6 Sleeper Golden Crest - Railsmith Undecorated Car - K4 Decals

Tail Car can be one of the following:
-SP 10-6 Blunt End Sleeper Golden Dawn - Railsmith
-RI 2-1 Boat Tail Observation Golden Divian - Atlas car - K4 Decals

This should be a fun project. I have all the cars in hand (completed) or ordered/bought off Ebay that I will need to alter/build.

Notice that the RI is only listed as using an A-B set of E7's for the train. I'm going to use modeler's license and use an A-B-B set of E7's since the train is 15 cars when complete. I've also seen photos of three RI units pulling the train.....so prototypically it is still correct.

This week I did a T-scale project, a GE EL-C / E33.  This is the first test print and while there are a couple of things to improve it came out well.  It fits on the 6-axle chassis.

With the basic completion of the WP&Y layout I started thinking about the next one, and I want to do a standard gauge T-scale one.  I'm considering either a N&W/Virginian prototype or the long-planned Princeton Jct. one, and an EL-C or E33 works for both.   So, I might do a two-sided layout with a similar oval design like the WP&Y, with N&W/Virginian (Mullens WV) on one side, and Princeton Jct. on the other, divided by a backdrop.

This should be fun!  I still need to build my two Union-Station Rock Island diner and coffee shop cars.  I'm looking forward to seeing yours!

In the Red&Silver days there were SP consists and RI consists.    There were 4-4-2 and 6-6-4 sleepers from both roads in both consists, but otherwise the coaches, dorm, observation and food service cars were mostly SP or Rock Island.

The Rock Island didn't carry a separate lounge car, since Golden Divan, Golden Vista and Mirada all had lounges. The Rock Island train carried an SP 10-6 sleeper, but the SP train had the 10-6 tail car instead (and of course the lounge).

My solution to all this is to build two consists - but I've got a little way to go yet.  In the meantime, I'm running a blended consist.

If you haven't already built your 12-br Golden Poppy, Kato sells a 12-BR (for the 20th-Century set) that will work just as well.

Point to point running has been achieved!  More details in my Engineering report.
In other news, I raided the storage unit and rescued all my scenery materials.  Time to start making this stuff look like something.

so after much procrastination and modeling area/design changes I have pretty much decided on building this in my little corner of the basement. It's based on Fairborn Ohio and the ex Erie Lackawanna and New York Central shared main lines north of Dayton. I was looking for something with a little switching and a bit of scenic running as at times I enjoy just watching my trains orbit. I'll also get to model both EL semaphores and NYC tri lite signals. Maybe i should start an engineering thread with some of the area details after getting back from using up those Lowes gift cards I got for Christmas.

George,

Went on the Kato parts website and they're selling that 12 bedroom car (parts) for $35.00, so I ordered one just now.  It will look better than the Union Station Products sides :)

Thanks for the tip.

My weekend including finishing up decaling projects from last weekend and 3 more projects this weekend.

The UP 2010 BSA unit and UPP 572 "Promontory" Experience cars are mine for my train.

The UPP 6203 Sun Valley, UPP 5714 Lynn Nystrom, UPP 5486 City of Salina, UPP 5480 Sunshine Special, and Saskatchewan girl.

All the cars are Circus City decals and the BSA unit is Fusion Scale Graphics. First time using Fusion decals, and quite impressed with them. Very easy to work with.

Nice.  I'm still waiting for some sound-equipped Atlas Century models to pop up so I can finish my two N scale versions.  It may come to the point where I design my own chassis, as I did with the EP-3.

The first print attempt at CR 12 rendered overnight.  I decided to go with the banquet table arrangement, rather than just an empty floor or a single conference table with chairs in the center of the floor.  Any conference meetings can be held one car over in CR 55.  If not for the rogue banquet table that didn't stay anchored to the floor, and the missing print support from one of the air tanks, this would have been usable with just some minor touch-up work.  But I'll take the opportunity to make some minor adjustments to better the model.  I'm amazed at how well the tablecloths rendered, given the hell of a time I had creating them.

After dealing with furnace then water heater issues the past couple weekends I spent some time on my ex EL hopper. I weathered the trucks and couplers then broke out the airbrush to create some spilled cement down the sides and around the bottom gates. I used Tamiya white (X-2). I used some white heavy body acrylic paint to create heavier cement deposits. I sprinkled some plaster on the wet paint around the hatches. I don't think the plaster looks bad, maybe a bit too thick, but I think I could have gotten a better effect with some white or light grey weathering powders. All it needs now is a final coat of clear and maybe swapping out the couplers for MTLs.

I reworked one of my earliest 3D designs, a Procor aluminum sodium chlorate car. Major changes were made on the inside by adding a 10x40mm compartment for holding weight. On the outside I added weld lines (.07x.07mm!) and support for the walkway railings. The test print below came out good. I need to adjust the print angle and supports for "production" versions.

Are you offering print files or going to print for others ?  I hound Rapido to do these in N scale any chance I get.  If you have a paper mill on your layout, you need a few of these

I finished up a few more MOW projects. A mix of Baldylox prints and Showcase Miniatures kits. With my own special touches.
