What am I doing wrong here

Tried to deskew this photo to trace it and well I think it is wrong. The right side sloped roof should be lower I think.

How do I properly flatten out this photo  :?

You can cheat and use your smart phone. I have an iPhone but I think Androids have the feature also.

I print the picture, then I scan the picture using my Notes app, which properly removes the perspective if you drag the boundary lines to match the perspective of the building. Then I save to PDF and send it to my laptop, where I can extract the photo for import into other applications.

See if this is okay. I can adjust the boundaries if necessary.

I can get the perspective perfect by usiing the building and roof edges as the boundary guides if necessary.  You would then have to approximate the locations of the chimney and gutters, but you're capable of doing that in your sleep.

I have "Samsung notes", but no way to take a photo with it.

Your photo has perspective lines on it. I was trying to make the photo flat so the building is square. I have photos with people out front that I could use to scale it to HO.

Use the PDF.  The photo is here to show you what I set the perspective boundaries to.

Here’s the modified boundary using the building edges. In both photos it appears the left side of the building is stretched out. But I measured the distance between the four fence posts and they match.

@Chris333 — The vertical and horizontal lines are still very slightly skewed in places, but it should be adequate enough for you to trace and create an accurate vector drawing.

Yeah it looks a little bit too long and not tall enough.

I played with this:

An came up with this:

The roof is not perfect, but the side wall looks square enough to (re) draw it up.

Thanks. Did you stretch the photo with your phone or computer?

Looks good!

I did it on my phone.  I usually use that trick with logos and lettering.  Buildings are tough when then perspective is that severe.  The current version of Photoshop allows you to perfectly remove perspective.  That's what MTL does when creating their weathered 4C artwork from perspective photos.  I sent them the boxcar red BAR 50' PS-1 with the SoM replacement door which had severe perspective, much more than this building, and they had the perspective removed flawlessly and fast enough to announce the weathered release on FB something like a day or two after I sent Joe the photo.

The distance between your fence posts is not consistent though.  Try stretching one of the photos I sent to match the height of your results, see if that is a possible option.

Here's the sign.

Also, there definitely are more vertical slats in the left wing front face than in the right wing front face.  Two different widths, but you can compare the wide slats on the left wing with the wide slats on the right side of the main building.  There the same width in the iPhone-adjusted photos.

Well N gauge   HOn30. I love it because it's in Ohio and the sign says "mine service". I read about a 36" railroad to coal mines in Coshocton. This is what happens on my first day off in 4 weeks...

That photo might have some spherical (fisheye, or very wide angle lens) distortion. That is not easily corrected for using perspective or de-skew tools.

This will do until I get some hinges I ordered. Then I will primer it to see if the texture is OK and work on it more.
