I put these two "throwback" (mid-60s era) boxcars into service; IM kits with diagonal panel roofs, M/T trucks with ESM wheels, Black Cat decals.

This week's time was spent getting the last two layout sections ready for installation.  Like the Sundance section, they have to be cut and shortened to fit across the new layout room. 

Underneath the Kiskatinaw section, the LED lighting and track bus wires have been removed back beyond the cut line, and new connections to the adjacent section installed:




and underneath the lighting canopy, LED lighting and aux bus wires have been similarly removed back beyond the cut line and new connections installed:





I also worked through a list of about ten repairs around the layout, including broken or dislodged wires and an exploded servo bracket.

Michael (Dayliner) came over and assisted me with installation of the servos for the north end turnouts at Septimus, and we also got my circuit breaker panel out of storage and installed under the helix:




This was a prerequisite for getting going on all of the electrical connections around the layout.  My next project is control panels for Bond, Sundance and Septimus.

It might have been re-trucked with B-B trucks.  The RS-1/RSC-1 and RSD-1 all had the same frame length.  The RSC-1 and RSD-1 had curious looking trucks.  They were designed to operate on the crummy track in Persia and the Soviet Union.  The RS-2 and RSC-2 had the same frame length.  It is curious that the locomotive in the photograph has the same cab style as the RSD-1.

The Robe Loco is an RSC-3 Built by MLW in the early 50's for the New South Wales Government Railways.  This one ended up in Western Aussie on the iron ore railroads.

Middle axle removed and the short drop equalizers replaced with a longer one to span the gap between axles. CN did the same with a number of their RDC-13's in the late 1960's, with all returned to A-1-A configuration in the early 1970's.

Makes me question even getting started on the rebuild of mine.  Maybe I'll just leave it with the 3rd life inherited yard and be done with it.  Take up quilting or stamp licking or something....

No need; it was assembled on the workbench and bolted into place, and just returned there after storage.  I will have to spend a few evenings sat on the floor under the helix to reconnect everything; once done it runs itself.
