Hey, why not? But they'll get some Zona blade treatment and an overspray and weathering. But it's good to not start with Orange  :P

Well, bump :D
Finally got a chance to get back to work on the "narrow gauge" country. Did the framing for our RGS inspired double bridge, and made some progress on the foundations and abutments, carved out of 1" pink foam, see pics. To be continued...

Those 3D printed trestle bents came out great!

I also want to know more about those hand-carved styrofoam abutments!

Thanks Dave!
I use the high density 1" pink foam to "carve" whatever I need in the way of stonework. The "carving" is done with a #2 HB pencil :P
See pics. Afterwards, I seal it with Gesso (or lately, Gamemaster Terrain sealer spray) and paint with cheap acrylics from Michaels. Nothing to it... :D

Thank you Scott! Much appreciated.
It seems that due to the proximity of the rock faces to the trestles (see pic) I really need to place the scenery contour forms behind the bridge before installing the bents. Starting on it tomorrow...I think... :P

Thanks Dennis!
Not much progress to report account I've been busy traveling, to Chama NM among other railroad places. Got to ride the C&T all the way to Antonito behind one of the two remaining coal burners, the 484. Next day, we chased its sister 488 up the mountain, around Windy Point and Cumbress to Los Pinos. What a perfect concoction of sights, sounds and smells! :o
Highly recommended! Pics below (if I may).

Before leaving for my Colorado/New Mexico trip, I installed rough chicken wire and plaster gauze scenery behind the two bridges and asked one of our guys, Doug the Rockmaster, to consider doing some rock castings over it in my absence, and left some pictures for him. Voila, he did and here's the results to date. Pretty nice, I'd say. I now have no more excuses not to install the bridges. For scale, the bridges are 24" and 28" long, respectively.

Otto,

That guy does some excellent rock work, can't wait to see the pictures with the bridges in place.  I'm hoping to get to Colorado next fall to take pictures for back drops and I wan't to get to ride the D&S and the CAT, hopefully getting a ride behind #463.  I'd love to get a cab ride but boy are those pricey.

Yes, thank you, that's why we call Doug Mr. Rockmaster :D
I made a bit of progress today, finishing the bents and their foundations, installing the stringers and fitting a handful of bents in place. Cheated on the stringers, made them continuous and chose to use four fatter ones in lieu of six skinny ones (for structural integrity). Once the bridge ties go in I doubt anyone will notice. The bridges are on a 2.5% grade and so the substructure needs to be precise and consistent. I built the bridge base level to allow the bents to be vertical, but they all need shimming or trimming to fit in place under the stringers. Fun stuff, pics below. TBC...

Looks fantastic Otto, and you're right, no one will notice the continuous stringers once the ties are in place.
