Unfortunately they are still holding back on separate run of the blma 33” wheels
Maybe someday we can get another run of decent proto wheels again…

If you need 0.540 inch axles, as Bryan noted, his ESM wheels are widely available, and almost always in stock.  I've never had an order, from my favorite dealer, that wasn't in stock, but it's possible they might be temporarily out someday!

OK, I'll put a wrench in the works.     

Would it be possible to purchase just the wheels unassembled?  Axles can then be made to whatever length is needed.  And then, unassembled wheels with the smaller hole and no insulator to make up lighted passenger car axles.  I know that's not for everybody but there would be some of us who could use it.  Or maybe you could stock various blank axle lengths and unassembled wheels and sell them as "kits", selected as the need arises.  It could still reduce the inventory requirements and satisfy a lot of requirements not now accommodated. 

Blank axle lengths could even be "turned" in a drill chuck with a file to whatever the need was.  Totally a "kit".  Price wouldn't necessarily have to be lowered as the true savings of the assembly might be consumed by the handling effort but the option would be there.

And maybe the ultimate answer that would satisfy the insulated wheel, track power pickup need as well as the axle length would be to furnish wheels assembled with half axles and insulators joining them.  They could be assembled at a standard length but a modeler could disassemble them and press the axles in or out to adjust the axle length.  The insulator already sets the back to back dimension so it would be a relatively simple operation to adjust as needed.  This would require that the axle halves are still a separate part from the wheels, not machined as one piece, but could be used as is for many applications, power pickup when required, but also be "adjusted" for the oddballs, power pickup or no.  One set gets it done.   Priced as required for insulated power pickup axle sets.

The demand wouldn’t exist for such a specialized product to justify a mass production. Certain minimums must be met to keep costs in line.

You always could disassemble existing wheelsets with a gear-puller and re-assemble on a custom-made axle if something is needed for specialized duty.

If you need single 33" wheels that you can put on your own axles, NWSL makes them. They're like $1 per wheel, so not super cheap, but a good option in special circumstances.

I only see two Atlas BLMA trucks on the Lombard website (ASF A-3 70 ton w/ 33" wheels and ASF Ride Control 70 ton w/ 33" wheels).  What is the third version?
