How to place fixtures temporarily on buildings

Maybe I am overthinking this.  Working on several stairs/ledges on a custom structure.  Not ready to glue down yet.  What do you all use to hold something temporarily in place?  These are small and delicate so I don't think tape works.

Thanks in advance. - Ross

I use clay -- or those blue picture hanger stickem's . the stickems are also great for putting loads on flat cars ... just a very little bit -- about the size a small nail head will hold stuff on nicely .. I mounted all my abrams tanks that way ..
