Adding wav sound file into an ESU LS V5 decoder
« on: February 06, 2022, 11:41:33 AM »

With a lot of reading and help from several people I was able to :

Create a sound file using sound clips from on-line
Downloaded that file into an ESU project #S0811 (EMD SD80 sounds)
Replaced coupler clank with the new special horn sound that I created
Mapped the sound slot to f3
Saved the SO811 sound project

I do not have a decoder as yet but since this is going into a KATO SD90 I will use an ESU LS V5 Nano with a sugar cube speaker.

Here is a 2 minute Y-T video to demonstrate what I have done. Keep in mind the sound is not coming from the decoder, in this case I dubbed the wav file onto the video file. The additional horn will be used for road crossings or for folks on the rails and used sparingly. This should go over well with kids at the annual Fair show. I will probably run this loco and my special caboose, for special trains that I want to emphasize a certain subject or issue.

I love it Carl!
I seem to recall that another  member of TRW has done somethgin similar by adding a non-RR sound to their decoder.  Might have been @davefoxx or @Dave V  .

LOL, wasn't me. I can't help but imagine @Ed Kapuscinski has considered which PornHub clips could provide the best sounds for his Northern Central.

A pair of SD40-2s growl toward a grade crossing on the north side of York, PA with a string of weatherworn Railboxes. The leaning, rusted crossbucks begin to flash and ring. The bell on the lead unit begins to ring as well. Then Riley Reid screams "Oh ****, you're gonna make me ***!"

Ahahahahaah.

Honest to God, when I finally grab a Lokprogammer, it's gonna be sick.

But I'm starting with Big Mike.

Haha!  It was me.  I downloaded “You Might Think” by The Cars into the LokSound 5 DCC decoder in my Aberdeen & Rockfish GP38 No. 400.  Well, that Geep doesn’t have dynamic braking, so what else was I going to do with F4?   :D

This was a proof of concept for me. It worked, her is a short sample:

I have removed this SO811 file from the F3B unit and will save to be put into my SD90 when I get a Nano sound decoder.

Thanks Pete for putting me on to the LokSound user io group, great help,
Carl

You're welcome Carl.  The LokSound decoders (especially V5) are so darn complex, that it is good to have a pool of ESU-knowledgeable people willing to provide assistance.  I have not gotten into the advance customization or custom sound projects, but I'm learning things there just by lurking.
