I see a lot of folks posting videos here, so this seems like a good place to ask for a recommendation.

All I need to do is cut the beginning and end off of a video.  I don't even need to combine clips.

I am using a Windows 10 OS and have the MP4 files on a thumb drive.

I would prefer to not have to be doing the editing while on-line.

Any suggestions for an editing program and the link to down load it?

I used to use Windows Movie Maker, but since Windows 10 it went to crap.

That is my problem, too.  The capabilities that I used to have seem to vanish unless I keep using and updating and finding new programs when old ones go away.

So, I guess I need to emphasize currently useful on Windows 10.

I have Windows 10 but I have Windows XP running in Virtualbox. XP has Windows Movie Maker.

So, if you are somewhat comfortable with software installs, this is a fairly easy solution (and free).

You didn't say free or paid.  I've been using Adobe Premiere Elements for years.  I haven't checked prices lately but when I got it it was around $75.  Runs fine on Win10.

  Found "Video Editor" already on my Dell with Windows 10 OS purchased from Staples.  Did what I needed to do, although clunky until you learn the interface.

I had to find it by looking at "All Programs" and reading all the names.  Looking for things that the OS "knows" can open MP4 files didn't turn it up in the options list.

For simple stuff ShotCut (https://shotcut.org/)
Free, open source, cross-platform
Tons of how-to videos on line
Even with my notes ("ShotCut for Dummies Like Rick") you forget "how to" when you don't use it for a while.

Also used ShotCut recently. A bit clunky, but the price is right. :) I'll certainly be using it more in the future.

Thanks, Rick.  Even though I got my immediate task completed, I will be looking at ShotCut.  What I found already installed on my laptop doesn't seem to be something I can get and install myself on other laptops.  It looks like a MicroSoft product.

So, free, open source and cross platform is exactly what I was hoping to get a link to, and you came through.   :D
