Well I can definitely get one of these to paint up for the Golden State.

From Lowell's last FB chat session,  it looks like a Golden State consist will be added to the lineup soon, so painting may not be as necessary.

I'm so tempted to do the triple sleeper pack and the blunt end sleeper. But what holds me back is the Cascade Club triple set.

I know Union Station Products make the sides, but what could be used for the core? Could a Kato Daylight kitchen set be cannibalized for use?

I am planning to use the Union Station sides on a Des Plaines Hobbies DPN 1514 SP Shasta Daylight Triple Unit Diner kit $79.99.
It includes trucks with FVM wheels, and is the right lengths for the Shasta Diner or the Cascade Club. It is the basis for the Centralia Car Shops Triple Diner as well.

It is unusual.  In their product literature, Railsmith has a photo of one of these cars on the tail end of COLA.  UP Paint but lettered for SP.

Apparently it was leased/swapped to the UP in 1960 and 1961.

Isn’t the COLA and COSF very similar if not exact consists?  I thought I read conversations where Kato could easily do a COSF   upon the release of of the COLA.

Union Pacific train for sure, but pool cars from various roads were painted in UP colors.  You'll find cars with roadnames in the letterboard including Southern Pacific, Chicago & Northwestern, Wabash, Norfolk and Western, Pennsylvania, etc.  And of course Milwaukee Road when they matched paint schemes.

This Southern Pacific owned car is correct in UP colors with SP letter board, for service on the COLA.

Similar yes, and many of the same cars.  But not exact.

Heard back from Lowell.    He's not planning to do undecorated cars at this time, nor a Golden State car.  I got the impression that this was driven by the need to keep financial risks manageable, although he didn't say that directly.

So I'll be repainting one of the decorated cars.

Re-reading what he said, he didn't rule out doing an undecorated car - he said it wasn't planned but "could happen".   He seemed more definitive that he wouldn't do a Golden State car at this time.  I'm still going to buy a painted car on the assumption that undec won't happen this time, and I definitely don't want to wait for a future run.
