Not seeing some photos....
« on: September 12, 2021, 12:04:46 PM »
I'm wondering why I can't see some photos that are posted by members but see most.  On the posts where I can't see the photos I can copy the post and paste it into my word processor and then the photos appear.  In the post there is a large blank area where the photos are.

Same goes for some of the members avatar.  Can't see it but can open it in a new tab.

Problem could be related to what is described in the top sticky thread in this section of the forum.  The subject lines is clear.
Here is a link to it:
How to Display Missing Images in Chrome and Edge
There is also a secondary thread here (also on the first page of this section):
See photos don't load?

Thanks.  When I look image permission is turned on so couldn't go that route.

One that is consistent where I can't see the avatar or pictures is on Randy's (Randgust) posts.   I noticed in one of those links you gave me that the problem might be old images that aren't HTTPS to work.

.... The real trick is whether you can get a 301 redirect to work inside your own webspace/server to redirect HTTP to HTTPS for old mage links.    My guy 'thinks' it will work.    It's kind of a crapshoot, actually.....

I notice if I go to his site it comes up as 'Not secure'.  I see all of his images on his site but not the ones being posted here.  But I can copy the post and paste it into my word processor and the images show up.

This has me wondering if my images are showing up here or other places as my site is also 'Not secure'.  Since neither of us are selling on our sites and aren't asking for passwords or any other personal information from what I gather being 'Not secure' is not a threat for someone visiting them.

So I'd be interested if the following image and/or my avatar is showing up here?

If you can't see the roundhouse image above then probably no reason for me to include any images with my posts.

I see your image just fine, but my browser does not have the "problem" described in the threads I pointed you to.

As those threads explain some browsers block unsecured (http) contents that is coming from a secure (https) website.  There are workarounds available (again as shown in those threads) to disable that blocking feature.  You are not the only person having this problem (that is why those threads were posted - to resolve the "blank images" issue members were having.

I would say, post your http photos to the forum (just like others do) - most of us will see them. And those who can't see them have means to see them too.

Thanks.

It is something with Chrome for sure as I just tried Firefox and no problem there.  I should probably just switch back to it for everything.

I thought I did the suggested fixes for Chrome but nothing has changed using it,

My tin-hat response   is to not overlook the high likelihood that Chrome has hidden non-cookie cookies you cannot clear; i.e., special variables and settings that are intended to record or otherwise keep track of your activity within the Alphabet/Google ecosystem. Non-Chrome browsers will lack this "convenience feature". There is probably some hack published somewhere like deleting an obscure file that will reset this.
