I know it's purely wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be great if Kato could do for HOn30 what Bachmann did for On30?

Come to think of it, Bachmann has done HOn30, but just the Thomas stuff.  But imagine of someone would do small American-style RTR HOn30 locomotives and cars but in Kato or Bachmann-sized volume!

I didn't realize that Thomas (well, the fantasy railroad) was narrow gauge.  That would imply that the N scale models of Thomas (designed to run on 9mm gauge track) are foobs?  :? Should the N scale Thomas be actually made to run on Z scale (6mm gauge) track?

What Chris said.  Thomas and most of his friends are standard gauge, but there's also a narrow gauge line on the Island of Sodor and Bachmann makes that equipment too.

Kato is quoting a price of $105 for the mechanism, and they are very pointed about saying this runs on N Scale track, so they clearly realize the kitbashing potential of the mech for N Scalers.

If anybody's interested...I looked up the "Prince" and "Princess".
10' wheelbase (in HO = 1.37" =  18'-3" in N Scale)
24" drivers (= 48" drivers for N Scale)

It all has to do with Peco. Peco knows they can sell more for the chassis alone.

I know they are on the Kato website, but thought they would be listed as a Peco product. These were announced July 2019.

I%u2019m not sure that I didn%u2019t have some Egger-Bahn Nn2 1/2 c.1964 before I got the Lone Star OOO set.....so the Bachmann and now Kato/Peco is a trip down memory lane.   Some of the guys at the IIT model railroad club widened them and the AHM Plymouth and 0-4-0T to Nn3. (Brain fart....meant HOn3!!)  Con-Cor had a project with Roco to do a larger steamer but it never got beyond the talking stage.

Thanks for the explaining Thomas' gauges.  I also assumed that since it was Kato, this mechanism was Nn3, not H0 narrow gauge (runs on N gauge tracks).  Never mind.

HO narrow gauge doesn't always imply that it runs on N gauge track.  That's true for HOn30 (formerly called HOn2 1/2), since 9 mm works out to about 30 inches in HO scale.  HOn3 on the other hand is actually 10.5 mm, representing 36" (3-foot) gauge in HO, and therefore doesn't run on N gauge track.
