Wig-Wag New Website
« on: October 02, 2021, 09:03:45 AM »
They had to change vendors and as a result they updated their website. I like it much better. Haven’t messed around there much or placed an order yet, but seems way more friendly than the prior site.

It's the cart pages.  The original website hasn't been updated since ~2014...

Similar to Fox Valley, they need to update their webpage to forward to their shopping cart page.

Welcome to Wig-Wag, Trains' website.

We like to think we provide:
Model Railroading Essentials for the Discriminating Modeler!
Our philosophy: pricing and personal service are possible
from one shop.

We do not use a shopping cart system. They require flat rate shipping and generally
cost more to process credit cards. We prefer to charge actual cost for shipping.

Then click on the link for new products...

Please submit your Order using our secure ON-LINE shopping cart and receive your order confirmation right away.  It's the low cost way to place your order!  If you want to order by e-mail or phone and pay the $15 processing fee you may do so.   FYI: Shopping Cart orders are processed first each day.

Jeez, if it weren't for the gigantic wall of text in that yellow box it'd almost look like they joined the current century.

Do they still list every n scale item ever made? I have never been able to get anything done with them. Last time I was on the site the rules and conditions were extensive and I have not had very positive experiences when I attempted to inquire about items. That being said, I would love to do business and support an n scale retailer.

I love what Caboose Stop is doing.

I think they're turning traditional e-commerce on it's head in a really interesting retro experiential way.

Hell, 1985 called and wants to know if they can copy and paste all that text into a full page ad in MR, just using smaller less readable fonts in only black and white.

Talk about an interface ensured to lose you business.

If I didn't have Caboose Stop in the neighborhood all these years,   Wig-Wag would have likely became my Go-To hobby shop back in the early-mid 2000s, since it was tough to beat them in prices, and you could pre-order.

But I lost interest when the website became 'Total Drama Island' talking about the guys health issues, and then him having to go back to work as a contractor.... Then they did the Shopping cart (that the old site still says they won't do)...  It's good to know about health issues affecting the business, but they were playing it out like a drama on the front page... Umm no..

Well thanks Ed... that gave me the warm tingles (not in an inappropriate way)....

For those who haven't figure it out by now, I'm the guy running the camera..

This week we learned that our N scale cars sell great when we lower the price by $1 per car :) and spend half the show talking about an MRL Hopper mis-priced at $109..

Plus the Railfan videos and Shorts have been doing well...

@wcfn100
If you keep tabs on the CSH Youtube page, I just got access to some of Merlyn's 8mm films from the late 1960s and 1970s around Waterloo, IA... (Mostly RI and IC, but a bit of late CGW and early CNW)
Unfortunately, I don't have permission to post Bob's films..

For the benefit of all, do you just email Caboose Stop if you want items seen on the videos? I saw the website, but no inventory list for N scale.
BTW, I have seen lots of nice goodies on the video.

Yes, if your watching live, and have the ability to live chat, you can comment and we'll put your name on it.. otherwise email Merlyn or a phone call is best.
If we pull it live, we put your 'on line' name on it.. so be sure to include your 'on line' name in your email..
-- Don't Youtube Comment, or Facebook Message, as that doesn't get to them as fast..

We are starting to look for some more N scale collections, because our stock is getting down to the point that we can circle through it in around 3 videos 15 minute videos... and the stuff that is left is getting stale.. (but maybe that's me because I see it every week...).. but I keep reminding Carol she needs to say she's looking for N scale on the HO and O videos .. not the N videos.

In this day in age, I know it's insanely frustrating that they don't have an on-line inventory list, we have tried it several times.. but it's a nightmare to try to keep up with, and over time, old habits prevail, and it becomes pointless..

Once you watch a video or 2.. (especially HO).. you quickly see why an on line inventory doesn't work..... (in fact, there are a couple live videos where Merlin and I give each other ***** about not updating the Atlas O list..)
... And what you see in the store doesn't include what is in the basement.. and upstairs..

I love what the Iowa shop is doing. They really should have lots of various items vs. pizza boxes full of rolling stock. That
shop I posted in Northern California in the "hobby shop" thread should do this. Caboose Stop is actually pricing stuff
like shows. SMT Mainline on YOU TUBE goes through these Canadian shops which have a ton of inventory, but no real
enticement to buy. Would love to see used buildings.

Ian you are correct, there is a temptation to keep it simple with older shop owners with insane inventories. As mentioned
above Packratt Trains has this over the top inventory and nothing on-line. In the town I am modeling another store, in
Hemet, Dynamic Hobbies has an over the top selection of everything. No website inventory listing. Check out thier You
Tube video. It reminds me of Trains and Lanes when I lived in The Lehigh Valley, they had this massive inventory.

I mean, it's a pretty easy line to draw between no online presence and a big inventory.
