Expected delivery is January 2022 for the DC version, a month later for the DCC (and sound) equipped versions

I am glad they are offering it, many will be happy. I am glad it doesn’t fit for me. I just bought 838 to go with my 844.  I also broke down and bought the excursion set just to complete my Kato collection of passenger train set.

Kato just stated on Instagram that they are producing the Big Boy and will update everyone once more information is available.

The FEF sure looks really nice.  There seemed to be a pronounced “wobble” to it when running though.  Is that normal for these locos?

Steve,

I have an 844 version from the 1st release and it doesn't have that wobble and I have taken it apart and reassembled several times.

As for me, I think KATO should have not posted that particular video. Not the best promotional.

Be well,
Carl

That wobble reminds me of a missing traction tire on one side. I had that same wobble on a 4449 when I broke a tire.

I was hoping they would offer the greyhound as 844 instead of 8444 honestly.

If it really ran as greyhound in 844 than I am sure they will run it at some point. I only say if cause I honestly don’t know.

It did, in 1987, 8444 was painted in Greyhound, in 1989, it was renumbered back to 844. In 1991, 844 went in for a 4 year rebuild and reemerged in all black dress again. So in reality, she spent about the same amount of time in the  greyhound dress in both numbers. That's not including in the 40s/50s when 844 wore the TTG as well albeit not exactly the same looking loco.

Well that typical as to making a custom job.   last year i made my 844 a grayhound and changed her to 838. Going to make another one too but with triple stacks as the 835, 837 and 839 had.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew it ran in both schemes with both numbers, just wasn’t sure on the overlap.

Dunno about later in life, but the 2 tone grey scheme also had engines with silver/grey stripes for part of its lifetime.

Amazingly popular and appealing paint scheme for one that was used for such a short period of time in real life. Kinda wonder sometimes why UP hasn't done a heritage diesel unit in 2 tone gray. It would look pretty cool.

Years back, it was rumored that the SD70ACe 8444 was supposed to be painted in the Greyhound scheme, though it was never done. It would definitely look neat with a Greyhound FEF 844 and a SD70ACe 8444 in a train.

Not my photo, but people have done a Greyhound scheme on an ACe.
