BLI RSD15 & PRR P5a

It’s a little bit hidden, but the BLI ad in the July Model Railroad News issue shows some nice new announcements, a RSD15 for january 2022 and a PRR P5a for December 2021.

Wow.... Doesn't this violate the industry rule that you can't make any US electric in N scale other than a GG1?  I don't model electrics, but I'm sure the P5a will be popular with my Pennsy friends.

For my own collection, I'm now tempted to see if I can figure out how to "backdate" a high nose RSD-15 into an RSD-7.  Those couple years make a difference.

I was surprised, but in my copy of RMC that I got today there is a two-page BLI advertisement with the same thing.  Might be the same ad since they are both White River pubs.

Interesting is that there is a previously announced new run of EMD NW2/SW2 due June (2021) but also listed is another new run due January 2022.
Also there is another run of Heavy/Light Mikado due Nov 2021  That makes the third, I believe.

As mentioned, they show the Blue Comet fantasy P70 coaches due June 2021 but those just hit the stores.  My latest set of 6 1948 P70's arrived today.
Also listed in the ad are the coming runs of EMD F3/F7 and SD40-2 High and low nose.

Then there's some HO stuff...

Unfortunately no mention of the PRR J1/H9 that was talked about previously.

Sure does - and what is a really interesting twist, assuming the delivery order is roughly correct, the BLI N scale P5 will beat their N scale GG1 to market...I guess those boxcabs sold really well in HO.

Maybe they realized the N scale GG1 market is saturated.

So a different PRR electric should sell well also.

there are LOTS of ready-to-run mainline electrics in N-scale, but not North America prototypes.  For North America, all I can think of are:

E60CP  (Bachmann  long out of production and of marginal quality)
HHP-8 (Bachmann)
ACS-64  (Kato)
ALP-45 (Atlas) [ not a pure electric ]
GG1 (everyone and their brother)

Bachmann Acela and vintage Metroliners too, but those are more of MUs than locomotives. They still have pantographs. 

But yes, there are oodles of N scale models of European/Japanese electric equipment.  Just like in real life, where the  percentage of electric-powered equipment vs. others (steam, diesel) was very low.  Unlike in Eorope/Japan, where the percentage of electric motive power was much higher. The N scale model world simply reflect that proportion to some degree.
