I really wish someone would sell a kit or r2r version of the 40' General American steel reefer.


That was my mantra years ago.  I can't imagine it not being a bit of a money maker (if no serious gaffs are made on the model), so many paint schemes...

Looks nice, unfortunately the 25XXX series are 60' cars. The evidence is that Swift did not roster any 50' cars.

My October 1967 ORER lists 48 cars in the series 25001-25099 with an outside length of 56' 4".

... The 40' mechanicals have been on my wish list for a long time.  Someday I hope to get out the the Lakeshore Museum and get measurements and photos.

That’s a favorite of mine as well. My initial thoughts were to use the MTL 40’ steel ice reefer as a core and etch the sides from brass. But I haven’t jumped into the details.
