Given the amount of rust on the sides of this plow, what do you suppose the roof would look like? More rust, less rust, same amount of rust?

Thanks!

Difficult to know for sure without being certain what the roof is constructed from, but assuming it's steel, I would guess more.

I agree, more rust would be a safe bet.

Good find. So, maybe just a smattering of rust ala the sides.

Thanks,

Illinois Railway Museum recently restored the one that is in the photos. They used to have a yahoo group. Not sure if it switched to the groups IO format.

I know that I am late to the topic, I did want to add that while it would be rusted, it probably would not be heavily so. There'll have been seasonal maintenance on the car, including waterproofing and painting going on each season. It would depend on when you model as to how much weathering was on the car. At the start of the snow season it would be pretty clean. By the end of the season it might be fairly rough and ready, heavily weathered.

I weather things to varying degrees taking age and time since last rebuild into account from actual photos.

If you are interested I've detailed my process here: Andrew's Freight Car Weathering - The Roof.
