Constructing a Detailed Proto:48 Turnout From Scratch

It's going to be super hard to distinguish this from a proto turnout when it's done.

I've been busy with a few other efforts, but did get the points on this turnout into place and functional (using the throwbars from Irish Tracklayer, which AFAICT are not available any more).   Here are a view quick vids of MRL 132 testing them out 'in action'.....  I am planning to post some better pics of the point areas after I have installed the rail braces and other details.

Hopefully it also is going to be time for some paint and ballast soon...

Nice! I’d love to see photos of the point areas and the linkage to the ground throw (is it caboose?) I have a couple packs of the Irish Rack layer throw rods I guard cautiously waiting for the real layout.

That’s a sweet locomotive too! What brand is it? What decoder do you have in it?

@gregamer yes, that is a Caboose Industries throw (the N scale one, I believe).  The loco is based on the Red Caboose shell with a bunch of additional stuff, there is a build thread w/details & pics here:  https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=31130.msg343427#msg343427

So, a few thoughts:

I miss rail squeal.

You need to install an interior in that geep. I could see out the grill through the cab.

With an engineer and interior, it would be hard to determine if it was real or a model. Beautiful model.

For now I'm not planning to retro-fit this model (too many other priorities), but if you have any proto pics of a comparable cab interior, I can use them for planning the "next one" (and yes I do have a shell and other parts)

Oy, the perils of making see-thru parts....  I could just put some black tape over the insides of the grilles the next time I have the shell off....

Don't be a chicken! Add in some shutters and radiator cores. That's the reason you're doing O, isn't it?
