Very sad

What bad luck.  Looks like the train hit the truck just before tunnel entrance and momentum sent derailed cars into the tunnel.  A real problem for rescue efforts.  Reminds me to the Chunnel fire some years ago.

The NYC R160 subway car has a capacity of 240.  Thus with ten cars that's 2,400 bodies.  And that' the design capacity.  As a "use to be" rider I can tell you the number feels low.  I use to ride to high school and later college and even later work, crammed in, balancing on one leg.  In fact, in the old days, my best ride was between the cars.  Noisy but you could breathe.
