Somewhere something will end up mothballed or torn up.  CSX grows by reducing overhead.  Jobs and mileage will be sacrificed somewhere because of this.

I know this is business, but the last thing railfanning needs is more banality.  Leave the smaller roads alone please, it's bad enough there's all of this G&W orange everywhere here in Oregon...
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Better that they still operate trains on the former SP lines than not, no?
Besides, G&W is good for my business.

The STB filing is in!

https://dcms-external.s3.amazonaws.com/DCMS_External_PROD/1614365401439/301684.pdf

https://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2021/02/26-csx-files-pan-am-merger-application-with-federal-regulators

A couple of notes of interest:

-NS will have trackage rights on CSX (B&A) for their 22K/23K intermodal/autorack trains to/from Ayer, MA.
-G&W will operate the Pan Am Southern between Mechanicville, NY and East Deerfield, MA under a new subsidiary called the Berkshire & Eastern. NS will still own half of the operation and run their other New England trains on PAS/B&E, while CSX will take over the Pan Am-owned half.

This is all, of course, subject to STB approval.
