I'm getting ready for the upcoming snowstorm to hit Ohio here with this recently re-decaled Russell snowplow. On second thought, due to its size, maybe it would make a better windshield scraper. 



The good news this month is that I'm finished with my NKP Hudson kitbash project. I had a hard time trying to get the trailing truck to cooperate, but now all the bugs are ironed out and she's ready to pitch hit on my passenger trains when one of my BLI ALCO PAs has a fit.

Very nice and interesting buildings Lee.  For the shingles, are you using printed paper?  Also, the windows on the upper floor look like they have very fine munions - what brand of windows are you using?  Bob

 There are two instances in my life that currently make we almost want to destroy every effort I have put into a project trying to accomplish something. The first is a result of viewing what Lee does with a model railroad. Incredible, in my mind.

The other is going to a concert and hearing musicians that are so much more talented than I am.

A little more work was done to MRL 390. I think everything came together nicely with the railings and rest of the details added.

Spent over an hour excavating the workbench top. Spent 3 hours covering plants and pool pumps for the sleet and freeze coming today (!). Then started on a new flatcar load:



The clear plastic things will be painted industrial yellow and with some strategic holes and NBW castings should take on the look of overhead crane parts.  I hope.  The flatcar is an old 50' Atlas that I redecked in laser cut wood (sadly I don't remember which vendor) and weathered with an india ink wash.  Still need trucks, a side mount brake wheel couplers and decals for it.

Lee, knowing that this view is no accident, and that 'hanging in space' cantilevered addition over the alley is so interesting, what's the prototype look like here that inspired you?

We've got one of those around here, but it's hanging off the front of the building instead over over top of an alley, but an equally impressive engineering feat to try to gain a few square feet of expense with dubious engineering efforts.

I finished up this display piece in 1:450 scale inspired by the photo in the background.  Two 3-car braces of Jessop EMU's are passing on a fill through a mangrove swamp in southern Bombay (Mumbai) on the Western Railway of Indian Railways.  This is for friend whose uncle was a Station Master on the Western Railway.  It's my first attempt at doing water and while I'm not 100% happy, I think it looks ok.

Also this video might be of interest, especially as it was inspired by DKS' technique back when he was doing T-gauge stuff.  It the test run of a 3D printed T-gauge powered chassis that is short enough to fit in an F7, F40PH, etc.  I also have Blomberg trucks on the way that will pair with the shortened chassis.  This is partly a learning experience with the goal of making various other powered chassis--including one that will fit in hood diesels.

It actually could be any of a number of buildings featuring that kind of construction. But what I had in mind was actually the little alleys that we encountered in Edinburgh when we visited Scotland last year. They call such a passage A "close."
 The main thing I was looking for was just something to break up the block visually and add a bit of interest, and a little something to put a light in and some details.

In this case the building on the right was a furniture store.  As it grew more successful, it acquired the parcel next door and built the larger building on the left.  The alley was bridged with the second floor to connect the two buildings.

Old downtowns are always full of interesting buildings with interesting stories behind them.

I'm pretty sure that I've seen buildings similar to the model Lee posted here in Ball-T-More (where a small "addition" was built on the original structure to take advantage of available space).

Raided the train closet and dug out a few previously started projects to see if I can make anymore headway on them.



Successfully transplanted a freight pilot onto the Kato FP-7.  I had a winterization hatch on there but didn't like the way it was sitting.  Second is the CNW VO1000m.  spent a ton of time sanding and test fitting the shell pieces onto the chassis, but I think I got it now.  Need to decide what to do with the fuel tanks.   The stock tank has no detail but but making space for the air tanks will effect the wipers.  The biggest challenge left if the handrails.

The building on the right really resembles new construction roughed in with particle board.  I'm presuming that's the look you were trying to attain.  Very clever and well done.

Tim, any shots of the porotype plow? When I scratch-built my Conrail flanger, the plow profiles were impossible to do by hand.

After wrestling with the best way to kitbash "The Big Bridge" that I need for my DL&W mainline, I determined that a rather straight-forward bashing of the Walthers double-track bridge would not provide the results I am looking for. So rather than spend the next weeks (months?) building a more accurate bridge, I decided to punt. I installed a Kato bridge in the space, so that I could continue westward mainline construction. DL&W tracks are now operational to Cohocton NY, and the mainline loop is now about 2/3 complete. Now, on to Wayland!!
