[...sigh...] Just Discovered Five Rolls of Undeveloped K64

We were rummaging through boxes of old photos last night and Robyn found a baggie with five cans of Kodachrome 64 "waiting" for processing. That sure as heck isn't going to happen. Some of the cans were dated in 1997, so who knows what was on 'em, other than probably trains. Actually, thinking back, a couple of rolls could have been from ~1990. I suspect they were tossed in the box during one of three moves and just forgotten about, a roundtuit thing given the context.

The date range was in the period I was shooting about-to-disappear stuff, like the Green Bay & Western. I captured a little of that on Kodacolor and have the negs and prints, but what else could have possibly been on those lost-forever slides? Sad.

This is coming up on 4 years old, but it may be a lead...  Though I guess yours hasn't been kept cold which is probably a real deal killer. and checking FaceBook, I see the PiratelogyStudios page is gone, though if you search, some pictures links come up.

Quote from: Kelly-Shane Fuller of Piratelogy Studios
has been experimenting...and experimenting...and experimenting with processing Kodachrome in color. And he's done it. And he's offering Kodachrome processing to YOU.

From Kelly-Shane's post on Facebook in the Film Photographer's Group:

Ok friends, as many of you may know I've been developing Kodachrome as *COLOR SLIDES* for several months now, and I've been asked by a LOT of people if I'd be willing to offer lab services.

I've put a lot of thought into it, and the answer as of today is YES.

If you've been hoarding Kodachrome in the back of your freezer, its time to pull it out.

Here's the rundown:

I take no responsibility for color shifts, lack of image, weirdness in development, or children born with the head of a dog due to my process.

These couplers are LIKELY not going to give long term image stability.

I've processed MOSTLY Kodachrome 64 in 35mm, along with a little bit of K25 in 35mm. I've just gotten the pictured roll of PKR64 in 120 to try, so 120 film will be a go as well.

I CANNOT currently do motion picture lengths, though I'm working out a way to make that happens. That means no Super8, Double8, or 16mm films.

Development will be $25 a roll + shipping. This process is expensive, and I'm the only one doing it right now. Hopefully with enough interest I can order larger chemistry amounts and drive this cost down.

I did find those sites, mostly on a lark to see if anybody had reverse-engineered the process. They're not really worth $25 a roll to find out most or all is unusable. Like I said, just tossed in a box and forgotten, so time and temperature have undoubtedly taken a fatal toll. Thinking back, the box in question was stored in west-facing non-A/C rooms in at least two houses, so they got "a little warm".

The photography probably wasn't great shakes, either. If there were any from the GB&W trip, f'rinstance, that dark/dank going-away shot reflected the weather for the entire trip up there. I didn't have the fastest lenses at the time. If that was the best I could get from Kodacolor 100, the K64 would have been hopeless. I seem to recall picking-up the print film while on the trip after realizing the 64 was resulting in 1/25-second exposures, wide-open.  :|

I found some old disc film a while back and when I searched online they wanted like $112 to develop one disc. I guess it uses a different process. I tossed them in the trash.

If you haven't missed them in that long, then it may not be worth the effort to try to recover them.

I still have some old home movies, kid pics, and such on 8mm tape and other media that I have never converted to any kind of format readable on today's media, and I don't think I will ever get to it.  Some things I am content with just to let them live in the past.

Why not develop them, but just print a proof page & decide if you want prints.
