Using a dessert decorator to strategically squirt plaster

Im someone else has thought of this but I don’t think I’d seen it before so I thought I would share.

Im guiding a river canyon with rock walls out of many rock castings. I wanted to fill in the cracks with something more accurate than my sausage fingers. Previously I had filled some gaps with latex caulking but it required scenery materials over top as it’s not workable when dry. That was fine for the other location but now here as a lot of the joints are vertical and horizontal on rock faces.

I found my wife’s cake decorating syringe. And filled it with a batch of Sheetrock 90, loose enough to be pushed through but not loose enough to flow.

Here is the scenery before:

After filling the cracks:

And as it starts to thicken I scraped off the excess and then added texture with a wadded up piece of tinfoil.

More work to be done for sure but I achieved my goal
Of keeping plaster off of the rock faces.

I think this is a great idea.  I've always thought somebody should make refillable cartridges for caulking guns, and this is a functional equivalent.

I did catch one typo, though....

I found my wife’s cake decorating syringe. And filled it with a batch .....

I'm sure you meant to say....

I just ordered a really nice brand new cake decorating syringe for my lovely wife.  In order that the old one not go to waste, I recycled it for hobby use and filled it with a batch....

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

I wondered why anyone would want to decorate a desert.   ;)

DESSERT. DESSERT DESSERT!  I’ve said it to many time now. It’s lost it’s meaning.

Bryan:  That was my first thought.  My second was that, making rocks, he might actually have MEANT a "desert decorator", and I wanted to see what that was!

Growing up in a semi-desert, the idea of a device specifically designed for making desert scenery sounded intriguing, albeit unlikely.

Incidentally, they make similar decorating tips, which are used with disposable bags.  Those might work as well, and in same cases might be better.  All that would need to be cleaned would be the tip, which comes in various opening sizes and shapes, just toss the bag

The disposable style is a good idea, although this one is easy to clean, and also comes with multiple tips. I edited the title so that I don’t accidentally dash peoples’ hopes of a solution to desert scenery.

Some western desert scenery does, at least from certain angles, especially after it snows.
