Not much going on for me - I've been packing up my trains in advance of a move next year.

I have some DCC projects I want to work on but I am still waiting on the Lokprogrammer that I ordered.

I am cherry-picking some of my other projects though - I hope to build up this G41a (railwire group buy from way back  ) in the next few weeks.

Doubtful, but it won’t be permanently installed for a while.  I hope to get the On30 layout up and running by the New Year.

Found a new use for the 3d printer. Revived a cracked gear Bachmann HO Lafayette by printing a new gear for it and replacing the melted motor with one from their Gandy Dancer.

That is a good solution Tony. I worked on Lee's Bachmann 2-8-2 which had 3D printed gears (looked like FUD from Shapeways), and one of those gears also cracked from stress.  Hopefully the resin you used will be as wear-resistant as the original gears (since it looks like meshes with a brass worm).

I figure this is a good low stress test. It will never have to pull more than the loco and two wagons. The gear only engages the worm on the motor so it didn't have to be super critical. I printed 5 different gears, at -2%, -1%, 0%, +1% and +2%. I wasn't sure how much shrinkage there would be during curing and wanted to get the best mesh. Also polished the worm gear with a little mothers mag wheel polish to make sure it would not be abrasive and wear the gear prematurely. I left the gear to cure a little longer than normal so that it would shrink as much as it could before I reamed out the axle hole to the correct size. So far so good with zero wobble, which isn't bad for a single axle loco.

That bracing looked great.  How did you make them?

I have a large number of twin tub hoppers that need bracing.  Tried tiny styrene angles but it got too frustrating.

The 'third' locomotive I ever owned in N was an Atlas FM, used.   It still holds the title as the ultimate POS I've ever owned, the most remarkable feature being that the slightly out-of-round traction tires on the powered front truck could, at full slip, vibrate it vertically right off the rails.   And it died of zinc pest.   Salute to anyone that still can run one, but it would take a video to convince me!
