Glad to see the wheels, but everything else is out of my modeling era.  Really nice stuff, though.

I clicked on this thread because I saw "Q4" and was immediately thinking "B&O 2-8-2 steam locomotive".

Who here has used their metal wheels? How do they compare to Fox Valley or BLMA quality?

I'd put them on par with those two in terms of appearance. I haven't really run anything with them yet, but haven't had any problems rolling them along plain track. They have become my default .540" wheel. FVM still has a wider range of axle lengths, but they're hard to find. The wheel tread is fine, like the narrow FVM wheels and like BLMA.

FYI — ESM wheels have been used on all ESM releases since 2019.  ESM trucks (and wheels) have been used on all X58/X65/X72 releases since 2019.

The ESM wheels look like BLMA wheels, both with the back side machined, compared to flat backs on Fox Valley wheels.  Holding 2 in my hands, I can't tell the difference between ESM and BLMA.  The tread surfaces on both look very nice.  The tread widths on all 3 look almost identical when comparing to Fox Valley "Fine Tread" wheels.  All 3 types seem to roll about the same, which is really well.

These wheels look really good when you paint the face a nice brown/rust color, and then clean off the rim.

There is a slight cosmetic difference between the BLMA and ESM wheel.  The face of the "tire" on the BLMA wheel represents a wheel that's seen more service than the ESM wheel and is slightly thinner, whereas the ESM "tire" represents a newly-forged wheel.  But both the BLMA and ESM wheels are prototypical.
