Red Carpet Platform...

Pre-orders must be pretty good to justify this..

Also.. a painted sample on the product page.

That is cool, but a lot of extra money for the proper length platform

I'm contemplating getting 4 to make a quad t-trak module, but I can't justify spending $150 for 12 pieces to compliment the entire length of the train.
Attempting to model a modern Southern Pacific based in 2015/2016...

Also, I have a passenger train addiction...

Doh, I misfingered the wrong one on the ten key. But the fact still remains still high price to compliment the whole train.

Does this obligate one to build a Grand Central Station to house the 1/4 mile long (or whatever 12 sections works out to) carpeted platform?

I believe it ended before the baggage and dormitory cars, extending only to where passengers would board the cars, based on a couple photos I have seen (but cannot find)

At each New York departure, Red Cap attendants at Grand Central Station rolled out a crimson carpet for passengers boarding the all-Pullman streamliner for Chicago. From 1938 until the last run in 1968, passengers walked down this carpet to their waiting cars. Stretching from the observation car to the engine, the football field length rug, especially designed for the Century, gave birth to the phrase “the red carpet treatment."

Well that written description is certainly self-contradictory. LOL. “Football field length” = 300 ft (ok, add an extra 60 for the end zones). “Observation car to engines” would easily be between 1000 and 1500 feet, depending on the consist.

Looking at a Track diagram, there was a ladder for platform tracks between 45s and 46th.. So I'm guessing platforms didn't extend past 45th st.

So Google Maps measuring tape says platforms would be 600-700' range.
So the rug could be run to the end of the platform and not be to the head end.

... However, even looking at vintage photos.. it looked like a dungeon back in the 40s and 50s, so if company image was a thing, I doubt the company wanted the well-to-dos walking any deeper into the abyss than they had to.

So 'Football Field' seems more plausible than 'full length of the train'.  (Full length of the platform maybe?)

Ian, that looks like the lower concourse.  TCL left, usually, from platform 34 on the upper (main) concourse.  That platform extends from 43rd to 48th (about a half mile!) and is long enough for 14 85ft passenger cars, plus baggage plus power!!!!!   Here's a link to "modern" platform map  https://i.stack.imgur.com/mZhgh.jpg

No more long distance trains, but still two levels of busy tracks and the subway below.
