Why did that video start with damage already done to that first car.  Did they back up to check and try again?

And why did they not show the other side of the bridge to see all the ruined automobiles?

That was a dispatching error, not the crew's fault.  Those cars should have never been put on that train.  There used to be a tunnel on the north end that you could only take articulated auto racks through on main #1, if the dispatcher routed you through on main #2 a similar thing would happen.  Trust me when I say the crew probably didn't even know it was happening, the engineer might have thought "Man these engines are a couple of weak sisters".  I once pulled a 30' tree out of the ground that had fallen between two cars.  We didn't even know it until the tree came around the corner and the brakeman hollered on the radio "Ahh f#ck! that'll do, that'll do!!!  We still call him Ole Hickory.  :o

The dispatcher is someone.  ;)

In any case, it must been hell to pay for whoever was deemed responsible.

I'd say the first car hit an earlier bridge and that started the crumple effect.
I'd also say the ride height of said car is to blame.....

True, but only train crews pay hell, anyone else just gets a slap on the wrist.

Then somebody would make it into an ESU sound project, and we would all be staging that scene.

Agreed, and I can't be the only one who wondered how stupid it was for the photographer to stand on that bridge, which could have been knocked off of its piers at anytime.  Maybe it was a zoom lens, but it sure didn't look like it.
