I'm definitely buying the W-900s, including a bunch for my own lumber company.  My almost 30 year old custom decals will come finally come in handy.  I included truck-door size logos when ordering decals for my narrow gauge way back when.

The 379s are more debatable.  I model 1974, and apparently they weren't introduced until 1987.  But, to me, they don't look out of place.  How different is the 379 from whatever Peterbilt had in the early 70s?

Google photos of 359 verses 379 and judge for yourself.
I think they look quite different myself.

I wish that Pat would have offered the Weyerhaeuser painted W-900 as well, but I have decals and have painted them before.

For 1974, you would probably want a Peterbilt 359.  While the cabs are slightly different, the primary spotting feature I use are the headlights.  An early Peterbilt 359 had round headlights.  And when they did offer rectangular headlights on the 359, they were not identical to the rectangular headlights used on the 379.  Trainworx does offer a grille with round headlights for the 379, and if you could swap out the grilles, you would have a good stand-in for a 359.

The prototype for the model shown below was actually a 359 rather than a 379, but with the round headlights, nobody seems to have noticed.   ;)

I think the 379 has a slightly longer hood that slopes down slightly from the windshield to the grill too.

Bryan,

I am not sure if there is any difference in the length of the hoods, but the cab on the 379 does sit a little higher than the cab on the 359, so there is some slope from the windshield to the grill.

Ah, I forgot about that - it was a fun project.

I do know they offered two BBC configs., 119" and 127".  This was a result of a longer hood variation made available.

Thank you, everybody.  Ten or twelve Kenworths will be a good-sized bill, so I think I'll pass on the Petes.  He'll probably offer the the 359s as log trucks eventually, and by that time I might be able to afford them!

I agree that a Weyerhaueser W-900 would have been nice, but since (as far as I know), they didn't work in my part of Montana, I don't need them.  For the Cascades and coast of Washington they're essential.

Trainworx trucks is one area where N-scalers have it better than HO-scalers. Here's hoping for a nice 1970s-era log truck in HO scale, but I'm not holding my breath.

Does Athearn still make their truck tractors?  I believe they were introduced in the 70s, so should be appropriate.  3D printing the log bunks and trailer suspension should be fairly easy, and the trailer "reach" could be as simple as a piece of square plastic strip.

I also had a request for a decal sheet with some logging names for the solid color trucks.  If you have a name you would like to see put on the decal sheet send me the information and I will get started.  If there is enough interest I will make this happen.  To keep the price affordable for the decal sheet I will not be able to offer a dealer discount on this item.

Pat aims to please!  Here is an update email that adds the Weyerhaeuser W900.   :D

Many of you pointed out that the N scale Weyerhaeuser Kenworth T800 is too modern for your layout.  I have added the Kenworth W900 to the lineup with the Weyerhaeuser colors to cover the 1960s thru 1980s.  In order to add this truck I had to change the part number for the Boise Cascade W900.  Please see the new part numbers below.  If you ordered your Boise Cascade truck already don't worry, I will change the part number on your order.  If you already printed the flyer throw it away and print the new one to avoid any confusion (the link is below).
