So, if I get this right, you built that in 1:1 scale with Vic Roseman and then you and DKS got together and built shrink ray to make it the size of a penny and also miniaturize a garden railroad kiddie train.  Right?  It is the only plausible explanation.....

No shrinking involved, but it was quite a job creating that giant penny.

Outstanding!, I used to collect comic books, so this one really hits home.

As a young child, I remember passing a particular newsstand in the dark, old Penn Station.  It would stop me in my tracks tugging on my mother's arm - all those colorful magazines and candies.

I also received and processed the first update for my Lenz LZV200 command station.  It came from our Canadian distributor on a USB stick and plugs into the rear of the command station:




I have also been working to reactivate the layout after a quiet summer, cleaning track and starting to move trains again.  Here is the first revenue train to Dawson Creek:

I got some 0201 SMDs a few months back and I finally put them to use on CP 9022 adding step well and frame lights. They're not perfect, but I think they look good enough.

That newsstand is incredible Doug!  I wish I could shrink myself to N scale, and visit it in-person.

Further progress on the acid tank pilot model. Had to change the design of three of the core parts because it was impossible to assemble in the needed sequence. Was able to move past that roadblock and circumvent another to reach completing the dome assembly. Next up are the end caps and body handrails. Looks like there may be an issue coming up with the vertical grab irons on the edges of the sides interfering with the handrails, time will tell shortly.

Its nice to get the layout back up and running again.  I am hoping to host a small operating session in a few weeks, so things need to be tuned up and got back into game shape.

I spent an enjoyable 45 minutes switching at Dawson Creek:




Power for this turn was C-425 804, RS-3 567, and C-420 632.  After a successful plate of Bolognese and a glass of wine:




. . . it was time for the return trip to Chetwynd, after setting out 567 for hte autmn yard job at Dawson Creek:




There was no tonnage at Dawson Creek, so it was a cab hop home.

Back to the chip car assembly line . . .

Tim, you do know how to live well -

This is my first attempt at using Union Station Products sides. Pullman Standard lunch counter diners #1566-1577. Built for use on the El Capitan in 1950. I still need to add the roof details, underbody details, letterboards, trucks, couplers, and diaphragms, but I thought I'd post a progress shot. The fluting is a bit thick to my eye, but the windows are correct and they fit well on the American Limited core kit (my last one....).

While I'm waiting for decals to dry on some of my reefers, I tried a new technique for modeling streaking rust patches. This was done by using a sponge with watercolor paints from a tube. After the rust patches fully dried, I used a damp brush in a downward motion to steak it. Best of all, if you mess up, you can simply remove all of it with water.

I removed the rust from the left side on that last photo.

Still needs a bit more experimenting but I think it's promising.
