I frankensteined up this pair of yard vehicles -

Kinda/Sorta like these?

Also, I've been working with William at trainjunkies.com on a custom backdrop. First iteration wasn't quite right though, so hopefully Plan B will work out better. Fortunately, he's very accommodating  :)

No photos, but 13 months after moving into this house and starting from scratch I laid my first batch of track on the new layout. It feels good to push some cars over the track to test it out.  Hoping to get a full loop down and wired up this weekend.

Have a great weekend!

I have gotten back to work on my six Van Iron chip cars, starting with completion of the centre sills for the underframes:

More details here:  https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=49577.45

I have also sourced some custom steel weights for my Railwest chip cars which are lower in profile than the adhesive steel weights I had installed.  This will allow the false floor inside the car to sit lower in the car.  The new weights measure 2" x 5/8" x 1/8" and weigh 3/4 oz or 21 grams.  As there are .040" locating ridges running down each side of the floor, I installed 2" long strips of .040" styrene for the weight to sit on.  I also installed three .156" high styrene blocks which are the same height as the weight.  One goes up against one end of the weight; after tacking the weight in place with CA I will place a fourth styrene block at the other end of the weight to keep it in place.  The combination of the four blocks and the steel weight will provide a nice platform for the false floor to sit on when installed:

Looking forward to getting the new weights and the false floors installed so I can add the 'A' ends.

Added cupola railings to the New Haven wreck train NE caboose.  Also added the roof end platforms, which for some reason were hidden on the digital model before I rendered the parts.  I cut them out of the cupola walkway of the last 3D print where the side detail was soft and filed/sanded them until they fit. Waiting on some components to arrive this week before continuing.

I'm trying to get back in the swing of working on the layout, but not much progress over all. Just snails pace work on a few structures.

Some nice light was coming through the window, so I set up some models and took this.

I finally had a chance to get the first car that I've modified from the MT Fast Mail set weathered this morning.  I've swapped out the couplers for MT Z scale 905's, added FVM 36" metal wheels, and added a bottom sill to the car using Evergren styrene.  No it's not really close to the ATSF car, but it's a decent stand it.

Got some more reefers done for my Santa Fe GFX perishable train.  Added MT trucks and FVM metal wheels to the intermountain and Athearn cars; there are also two Fine N Scale kits in there.  Weathered them up this morning.  Before and after pictures:

That diesel powered shay was a cool one off built by the logging company on the chassis of an old steam powered shay. They built another one they called a “Humdurgin” which was built to kick logs off of stake cars. It was basically a box cab that had a sort of leg that came out of the side like big Monty Python foot and pushed the logs off of the cars. The train would be pushed out onto the unloading dock at the waters edge. The Humdurgin ran on a parallel track behind the train. They could unload an entire cut of cars very quickly.
