One of the brass manufacturers sold a shrouded Pacific and four(?) car Cincinnatian set.  I forget if it had Eden Park or not.  That train did have the only smoothside RPO that B&O had (although it was a re-built HW baggage/mail).

Other than that, a smoothside baggage/passenger is lacking in N scale, although this one was a baggage/lounge.

Good idea for a car................or are you doing the whole Cincinnatian?


Lee, good idea for the boxes on the Circus Scheme.  My era requires Fireball on all except FAs and the F-3s that came back as F-7s, so I do not use that scheme, but, it is still a good idea.

The car is a baggage/lounge. The Cincinnatian didn't have an RPO. It was an all coach daily train for businessmen to travel between Cincinnati and the east coast. The P7's couldn't maintain the needed speed on the grades with more than 5 cars to keep the 24 hour schedule, 2 matching trains, one, east, one west, they passed in the middle, no mail service, at least in the beginning.

Swapped the power and some of the cars for a post war version of a Santa Fe mail train:

...........and in an ironic twist, the locomotive that matches the set will not pull the five cars even on straight and level.  A dealer that many of us liked in the Washington Area (and miss, but he is in Arizona, now), once had one.  I had the money to buy it.  He refused to sell it to me.  He told me that he would sell it to a collector, but, not to a runner or an operator.  He did not want me to spend all that money and be unhappy.  He told me that it would not pull the cars

It must have been a later photograph that I saw, but I do recall seeing one with a baggage/mail.  I can not remember where I saw the photograph.

Later roughly 1950, ridership declined and it moved to a cincy-toledo route which was virtually flat. They added head end cars when needed then and those were not streamstyled. By the mid 50's the train was a shell of its former self and was a hodge podge of cars.

grabbed a couple of x-CNW signals I've had stored at my sister's farm.  now, what to do with 'em? 


Then spent some time figuring and cutting foam some spline roadbed experimentation.




Taking some aerial shots for my sister of their flooding is giving me an idea for a scene on the layout...

I am thinking of just glueing the loads into the cars. They don’t look right without the loads. What is the consensus ?

I feel your pain. I have only about 35 of 140 fully converted (MTL trucks, FVM wheelsets, Hay Bros loads, TSC, GMM brake wheels).

As far as loads go... I glue mine, but the plan is to split the fleet into two trainsets: one empties, one loads.

I thought about that but 125 cars is enough, I am now waiting for the rest of the loads (61) from hay brothers, more coupler pockets adaptors from Shapeways so I can use the MT scale couplers. Also need lots more wheels, no fox valley to be found but ESM is a good alternative. More MT trucks are coming. Also I am doing a few taconite cars with the loads and top extensions from Fine n scale, these are glued in as the load and the top extensions are not separate.

It is doubtful that I’ll do another project of this size.

Very interesting and  good-looking load Doug!  I'm also wondering if an engine like that would be shipped without a tarp covering it?

Peteski - you may be right, however there is no way I am covering up that beautiful engine.  The big exhaust stack appears to already have a cover on it.

How about Blu-Tac the loads down? Stuff stays relatively sticky and malleable even being left out for a fairly long time, but is weak enough that you can always remove the load without damage if you want an empty train.
