Nice loco there Doug!  But I am really after a couple of these:

I'm a few cylinders short of a full set.

The latest email from ScateTrains arrived with this:

Quote from: ScaleTrains
Watch the ScaleTrains.com™ YouTube channel NEXT Thursday, July 16th at 7:00pm EST for our next all-new locomotive announcement. We’ll be unveiling our first Rivet Counter™ level N Scale locomotive that is not currently offered in our HO Scale line-up. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel to be notified when the video premier begins so you can join the conversation with other modelers as we reveal our 14th N Scale model.

Looks like they got the date wrong.  Next Thursday would be July 23rd, not the 17th. They had it right in the 7/9 newsletter.

The quote in your post states Jul 16 (yesterday), and it was a Thursday.  Hmmmm . . .

Maybe they changed it after realizing it conflicted with the Trainworld National Virtual Train Show event?

Yeah. I checked their YouTube channel just in case but the most recent posting was two weeks ago.  Plus the newsletter they sent about 10 days ago said July 23rd.  So I'm thinking someone goofed.  Still Not much longer to find out.  This new loco has either got to be transition era (1948-1952 max) or current day to be something I"m interested in.

This will be interesting.  My money is on an sd40-2.  But I want an SD70M flat rad SP.  Also as they have an HO scale Sd45 I wouldn’t say no to an n scale sd45.  My Kato sd45’s  are great but ......

It won't be an sd40 or 45. Those are both in their ho lineup.
Tier 4 sd70 is my bet.

How about a U30C? Plenty of roads and schemes Kato would never touch, plus there’s lots of different road specific details they could feature.

I do wish we’d see a RTR U36C or C36-7 in N, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for them.

The announcement of the announcement specifically states it is their first N scale locomotive that hasn’t been released in HO scale. So at least for Thursday’s release it won’t be an SD40-2/SD45.

Ho hum..... somebody call and wake me up from my nap if it is anything pre-1956.

Manufacturers are developing this habit of announcing their announcements.  Maybe it's just me, but I think it is counter-productive.  Why not just tell us what it is along with first run roadnames, and that on such and such a date, there will be a formal presentation with photos?  Cut the hype.  It just leads to a lot of speculation, and the majority of modelers being disappointed when the manufacturer doesn't make what they were hoping for.  The MORE information we have, the better we can plan our purchasing.  And especially when the cost of the locomotive is equal to a car payment.

Of course, I suppose this is better than the Intermountain method, which is to announce anything and everything that they might build sometime in the next 20 years, then, after 19 years, cancel it because if falls some unknown number of pre-orders short of the unknown number of pre-orders needed to produce it.

Cut the hype.

For 90% of the new products announced, the hype is the best part.

For me, I get to hold out a .001% hope that they'll make something I might buy.  Why would you take that away from me?
