Week was spent mostly on non-photogenic 1:1 scratchbuilding. I did, however, get one modeling project accomplished: an improved police car bubblegum light.

This was a different project for a client:  Before:  (Stock microtrains photo)




After - lots of changes, including the pressurized dome, piping, handrails, and details.   This was apparently an attempt to make a pressurized weed spray car that didn't quite make it and got demoted down to a water car for fire protection.  And yes, it really was that blue.

Super video   ...  loved that you used Richard Rogers music from the television series Victory at Sea for the sound.  It was perfect !

I completed my very first custom-paint and decal job this week. While I've painted and modified engines before, this is the first time I've done one from start to finish including lettering (even though I omitted parts that I couldn't do with the materials on-hand). Started as a factory CP Rail unit (as evident by the red handrails needing touch ups), was stripped using 91% alcohol, then painted flat black with a Tamiya rattle can. Afterwards, a quick shot of clear coat, then decals where applied. I went with this number because it seems to have been one that didn't have "Penn Central" spelled out on the sides; the decals I used were actually HO scale (Walthers 1968 Vintage) and did not have lettering small enough. That being said, this was also my first time trying to line tiny numbers up. Handrails were brush-painted black and yellow as close as I could tell from photographs of similar units. The sill I actually left because it had the "F" and builders plates already I think it looks "okay." All parts were then finished in dullcote, then reassembled, and then taken back apart and reassembled because it didn't work the first time... The camera always shows more flaws than the eye, so I have some more work to do, but for now I am extremely pleased with myself. It may not be the usual Railwire caliber, but I see it as a first step for me in joining the ranks of the "real" modelers. I also installed some LED's for headlights after cutting a few bulbs out of Locomotives, and basically redid the decoder install in a Life-Like Erie Built, but I have no photographic evidence of that (but can provide it if needed).
