Joe, do those handrails fit in the holes of the walkway they were originally attached to?

If they do, but not into the other walkway then the problem is clear - the holes in the "new" walkway are smaller.  If that is the case, since you can't drill square holes, and enlarging them by other means would be challenging, you will need to reduce the size of the of the rectangular ends on the stanchions.  You could likely do that by taking off thin slices of the stanchion ends.

No, they do not go in to the original sill. As I said, they were very hard to remove. I don't see any signs of glue either. I did start to to slice off bits of stanchion ends, as you can see on one handrail. I think I need to reduce thickness of tabs. I did start to try to slightly enlarge slots with the very end of X-acto 11 blade. But very tedious, and not accurate.
 I'll get them in one way or another!

Yes, that's what I was suggesting by saying "reduce the size of the of the rectangular ends on the stanchions."  You call them "tabs".
