Issue: Loco keeps stopping unexpectedly

I have an N Gauge loco with a Digitrax decoder. It's always been a reliable loco, and was, in fact, the first loco I ever added a decoder to (many years ago).

The other day, this odd behavior started happening: It will be running (forward or reverse, at different speeds) and will stop dead in its tracks. The throttle value will now show Zero. If I advance the throttle, the locomotive will begin moving normally (at whatever throttle speed I go to).

This happens at random times and locations on the layout. I have about 30 ft. of mainline, and it will usually do this 2-3 times per trip around the mainline.

This is the only one of my 30+ locos that is doing this.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks,
Bart

Sounds like a throttle conflict. Could the loco be selected on a different throttle?

Agree.  This is classic behavior for a loco selected on two throttles.

Thanks!

Yes, this was exactly what was going on, and boy do I feel stupid!

I have 4 throttles and the 4th throttle that I don't use very often had this loco selected on it, too!

It's been quite a while since I had a loco selected on 2 throttles, but this situation did cross my mind in this instance. I checked 3 of the 4 throttles, but ignored the one I use infrequently (although I do remember now that I was using it about a week ago). Why I didn't check ALL 4 throttles amazes me.

I'm glad this was a quick and easy question to resolve!

I always purge my DCC system regularly .. but I've done this more times than I care to admit :)
