Thanks Greg,

Man, that would be a heck of a detour. I'd love to to hear the explanation given to the passengers. LOL

The South Wind had PRR E8 locos running through from Chicago to Miami.

Suppose that the DLW had partnered with NKP, RI and SP to offer a coast-to-coast passenger service with pooled run-through locos?
That could have brought DLW E8s to the SP.

I planted some trees along the backdrop of Center St yard and staged D795 making a pull.  Need to get better at photo taking

Love the trees!

My progress for this weekend.

The E8's are just about ready for a clear coat and re-assembly.

I started the new front and rear hand rails for the SW900 (4628) Started the dynamic brake housing on the SW8.

My inner LV fan is following intently. Did you scratch build the hood modification?

I started committing some near sacrilege thanks to a decal hookup by @chicken45

I know you can still see the film. I'm still Micro-Soling them.

Aside from decal work, I also did the horn with a Miniatures by Eric horn (removed the stock ones and added it), added a sinclair antenna from @sschaer (http://www.custom-nscale.com/?sinclair-antennas,24) and custom PRR fabric sunshades (frames, shades are to come).

This is the look I'm going after: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1572372

This isn't me trying to be a smart a$$, but why did PRR run their diesels long nose forward?

Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

It was considered a safety precaution between the 20s and 60s. Theory was running short hood forward would put the engineer at great risk from a collision at a grade crossing. While running long hood would put an entire Diesel Prime mover between the crew and the danger.

Yep. Also, when they were first ordered there wasn't a whole lot of precedent. "Steam engines are fine like this, so diesels will be too". I think it was the GP30s that were Pennsy's first short hood forward diesels.

Speaking of, one of the fun things about that model I'm working on is that the radio antenna is "backwards". Usually they're oriented the other way around for some reason or another but I saw a few photos of Pennsy 9s with them like this so I figured I'd do it for variation.

Nice details on that geep @Ed Kapuscinski. You may need some Solvaset to teach those new road numbers to behave!

There is a reason - object strikes when the loco was in the lead, in the normal running direction. The streamlined front was designed to deflect branches, etc., from wedging in the gap and ripping the top off. Look at pictures of locos and cabooses with "firecracker" antennas and you'll find relatively few that aren't bent. Same problem.

Santa Fe (and maybe a couple other roads?) tried to solve this with the shorter "top hat" design, but when they were hit it would crack the radome. Water would eventually seep in and corrode everything. When that would happen we'd usually also need to replace the handset... from the crew banging the $#!+ out of it on the control stand thinking it would fix their communications problem. :x

Yeah. I think so. They've snugged down pretty well and I THINK some Dullcote will solve the remaining issue but I guess I should get some REAL solvaset instead of just using Micro Sol.
